Jack’s Grill Co on Florida Road
For us, Valentine’s Day is more than a celebration of love between two people. It is a celebration of my dear sister’s birthday. It’s an expression of love and a celebration of her life from the morning to the night. We decided to go to Jack’s Grill Co on Florida Road for brunch. Our table was booked for 11.30. When we got there, the maître d was setting up the front of the entrance. He seemed occupied. He assigned us a waiter who didn’t make us feel welcome. He failed to debut the menu. He distractedly took our order for drinks. He was in a hurry. We were seated outside on the veranda, hoping to enjoy the outdoors. It became too warm, and we asked to be seated inside. The section which we were taken to was not yet ready for guests. At that hour, the restaurant was sparsely full. I guess that would have gained momentum with the passing of time and would have filled up nicely with romantics pandering to valentine’s day requests. Once we were seated at our new table, we asked the waiter make recommendations from the Valentine menu for the day. His response was that we should have seen it on entering. He made no attempt to remedy the situation. He lacked warmth and communication skills. He failed to seat us. I had to find the written menu at the entrance myself. While we waited for our starters, the maître d, gifted us with a complimentary heart shaped chocolates to coincide with the romantic valentine theme. Our party of 3 ordered the Sushi platter as that is their all-time favourite dish especially from Jack’s Grill Co as a starter. It was fresh, delightfully flavourful and colourfully appeasing to the eye. It fulfilled all 5 senses. I am vegetarian. I ordered the Halloumi cheese which was crumbed and deep fried with sweet chilli sauce. It was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. The waitron removed my sweet chilli sauce before I finished my starter. For drinks, we ordered mocktails, the Spiced Berry and Citrus Burst. The berry was thick, perfectly pink, and berrylicious. The Citrus Burst was refreshing. Pleasant to look at and taste. I ordered a flat white coffee. Our mains were tantalizingly plated alluring the tastebuds to salivate. I played safe with my vegetarian selection. It was limited for choice afterall it’s an eat out that specialises in Sushi, seafood, and grills. And hats off to them for dedicating a place on the menu for proper vegetarian cuisine. It was Creamy Veg Pasta. The pasta for the dish should been penne to allow the creamy sauce to trickle into the tube. It was made with Linguine pasta and wasn’t hot enough for the creaminess to be savoured. Some of the vegetables were too crunchy. My companions chose Prawn Curry and a Prawn and Calamari Platter. Both were disappointed. The prawns were no more than 7 shrimp sized prawns drowning tomatoes gravy. The birthday lady was not a happy diner. The platter came with calami tubes which were rubbery and the prawns didn’t satisfy my other companion either. The lemon taste overpowered the lemon garlic sauce. I rarely see my companions unhappy with their choice of venue. But this experience was an exception to the rule. Before we could order from the decadent desserts menu we opted to end our experience. Before we left, our forgotten waitron arrived with a bowl of celebratory ice-cream for the birthday lady. I hope that the business of valentine was the reason for a somewhat disappointing experience. Looking forward to a...
Read moreHad a terrible experience at Jack's Grill. For context I am highly allergic to egg and any products that contains egg. I ordered a meal called the spicy lamb burger, but before doing so, I asked the waiter multiple times if the burger contained any products with egg in it. He reassured me multiple times that there was none. I was with a group of six and they also insisted that I'm highly allergic and that he should check with the kitchen staff but still he reassured the entire table that there were no egg products in the burger. My partner ask him to check a third time and he did not, he just assured us that there is no egg. Once the meal came I trusted that the waiter knew what he was talking about and had a few bites of the burger. I became ill and we had to go call the waiter (he never came to check on us). He once again said that no there is no egg and argued with us until he told us the burger contains "wahkiki sauce" which the base of the sauce is mayonnaise, which to my knowledge most restaurants used egg based mayonnaise (they normally replace or remove mayonnaise based products for me).
The manager was called to the table and she apologies for the incident (with no remorse or worry), all she had to say was "there's nothing we can do" and then tries to force me to order another meal. I was feeling ill and did not want to eat further but she continued to insist that I must eat something else. If my partner did not carry my medication with her I would have been in a hospital. At the end the waiter never apologized for the distress and they still charged me for the items I added onto the burger.
Really dissatisfied with everything that Jack's grill did in this situation, I'd not recommend going to a restaurant that does not accommodate those with allergies and continues to patronise those who ask for simple requests. Wish I could give zero stars if I'm...
Read moreThe food was great, if you are looking for well prepared seafood give it a go - salmon and tune where cooked to perfection BUT we where very dissapointed with the service. 3 waiters (or 2 and 1 manager? because the one was wearing a differenent colour shift) on the floor on a Sunday night and not busy at all (maybe 5 or 6 tables) Drinks and starters went well, then it came to the mains, what can be easier than 2 x seared salmon with veggies (told the waiter that we don't eat anything deep fried and don't eat white rice) and a lentil and feta salad for the table? Well that was totally screwed up. First came the plate eith the salmon and a bit of garnish, decided to started eating othetwise the salmon would be cold (the salmon was cooked perfect), nearly finished with the salmon than the sides arrived on 2 small plates - a bit of veggies and filled up with.......CHIPS!!!!! Told her again we don't eat chips, well plates where just put on the table! Like an eat it or leave it attitude! O by the way, at this point we still didn't get our salad yet!!! Salad arrived after we finished our main course Just a plate full of salad greens, 2 or 3 tomato wedges some feta and a couple spoons full of lentils dumped on top. No dressing! So we had the salad for dessert. I still ordered a creme brulee but my husband, who has a terrible sweet tooth didn't even want anything anymore! O by the way, the staff member with the light coloured shirt' was wearing her mask under the chin most of the time - even when talking to customers. They won't see...
