Let me tell you about the best craft brewery in South Korea.
I first came across Gorilla Brewing Company at a beer festival in Seoul and got talking to one of the owner's who is from England and I got to learn about how they started and what they are doing as a brewery which was really interesting to hear. Gorilla Brewing Company are based in Busan and you can start seeing them at a lot more tap rooms in Seoul which is great to see as they are producing an assortment of beers from lagers, stouts, ales, IPA's, sours and other types of beers which leaves you spoilt for choice on what to drink but you'll enjoy going through the experience of trying what they have and finding which styles of beer you enjoy and you'll definitely find something for everyones tastes and needs.
One of the great thing's to see is the popularity of Gorilla Brewing Company not just in Korea but around the world as they are in regular collaboration with other brewies from around the world and are producing some great beers to drink. During this visit to Gorilla they created a sour beer in collaboration with WERK coffee roasters and as well as having their core beer selection they are regularly creating other beers such as "Ocean" which is a blue coloured session beer which I really enjoyed along with their "Sour IPA". I really love the innovative way they are creating new beers using new and traditional recipes and I'm always excited to try what they have as it really is some of the best beer that I've had. Another great thing is when you visit their tap house you are able to order their beers to be canned and have them take away so you can enjoy them at home or as we did, enjoy them on the beach.
As well as great beer they also serve really delcious food with a menu that is always changing and new recipes are being created. During our time in Busan fried chicken was the popular choice and in particular their chicken burger which was a giant chicken patty in a batter that is similar to a fish batter when making fish and chips. This is then served on a bun with coleslaw and cheese with a serving of homemade pickles. The chicken was nice and thick and I loved how juicy is stayed and the batter was crispy which worked well with the coleslaw. The size of the chicken patty was massive and unlike any chicken burger that I've seen or eaten before that doesn't just deliver the wow factor but also great tasting flavour which you will enjoy with their great tasting beer.
The craft beer scene is Korea is really good with some great breweries producing delcious beer but Gorilla Brewing Company remains on the top of my list of top craft breweries in Korea that I would highly recommend to anyone looking to try some amazing beer and with the option of great food available, you can't go wrong with making a visit to Busan and checking out Gorilla...
Read moreCracking brewery putting out some tasty beers. Started with the Gorilla IPA which was delicious - very low bitterness which I like. Had the King Kong Imperial Stout because I thought I’d only be there for the two and wanted to try it. Was an interesting beer that had high acidity (IMHO) due to the Soju barrel aging. Very tasty though with heaps of dark choc and espresso. Lastly had the Hop Bomb DIPA. Normally can’t taste much alcohol coming through from this style but this was really sneaking through, probably shouldn’t have gone for the pint! Food was very tasty too. Opted for the bulgogi pizza and the gorilla loaded fries. Pizza on the flatbread was delicious and the fries were pretty spicy! Overall a very good visit and wish that I was in Busan long enough to warrant a...
Read moreMaybe best brewery so far in Busan, but still not best brewery in Korea… honest reviewer here. The British Stout and Red Lager are the stars. Would love to see the Gorilla IPA improved though. 100% understand the need to cater to the local taste, but please 1 west coast style IPA would put this place in the top 5 in Korea. Staff is nice enough, location is great for groups. Food is ok, hope they keep fried chicken in Haeundae location. Also little insider tip, the Gwangnam location has an happy hour and beers are about $1 USD cheaper than the Haeundae location, worth the taxi ride but no fried chicken...
