Bondon — Restaurant in Seogwipo-si

Very delicious aged black pork belly & back!!! The kimchi stew was also so flavourful that it packs a punch, never have one like this before 😇 it’s my first time trying the bracken and omg it tasted so heavenly as well!! Yummy fried rice to end off the delicious meal on 14 June 2023 (Wednesday) 🫶🏼

Atmosphere was super nice, doesn’t feel like your typical kbbq restaurant. Only got to know that it was the boss(?) that actually attended to us mostly! He speaks good English and explained some of the food with me and my Korean hostel friends. At some point he even became a Korean-English translator for us so we didn’t have to keep using Papago hahaha 🤣 I enjoyed the food with his great hospitality!! 🤩

Lastly, I just noticed that I didn’t have any smell of kbbq on me compared to the other kbbq that I went to other day 😱...

They sell only aged black pork here. The BBQ is done for you while you watch in anticipation. We ordered 3 servings of pork, and 2 servings of fried rice, because we just had a late lunch barely 3+ hours before. The BBQ is the main attraction, but the fried rice was really understated. It was also fried while you watch, and the end product is a delicious, umami-laden dish, with a little charred rice at the bottom for that crunchy, fragrant ending.

This was way way better than at a similar shop in so-called Black Pork Street in Jeju-si. Not sure why, but someone suggested it could be because of the ceramic hot plate they used. The staff here is also more attentive, probably due to the smaller shop and late hour (we were there around 8pm).

Probably my best meal this trip, and totally worth the 68,000...

During our stay on Jeju island we were tipped to try the famous Jeju Black Pork meat. So we inquired about a good Black Pork restaurant. Bondon Restaurant was recommended to us and we had the pleasure of eating there yesterday. The restaurant owner is a passionate, enthusiastic professional with expertise and contagious enthusiasm.
