KBBQ joint located near the Olle market. Rated very well (4.7) with many more reviews (1.8k+) on Naver than in Google Maps. When we went on a Thursday evening the tables were only 1/3 occupied so we didn't have to queue. We had 600g of pork belly/pork ribs for 60,000 KRW. They will cook for you, so you just need to sit back and enjoy. Found the ribs nicer (more juicy & tender) than the pork belly. Both were fresh and tasty.
They serve the food with banchan that can be refilled at no extra cost (self-service) including lettuce, garlic, and gochujang - my holy trifecta of KBBQ garnishes.
The charcoal they used was really hot and you can really feel it when they install it the first time. Be careful when handling the odd ramyeon bowl placed near the flames.
There is parking right in front of the restaurant which I thought costs quite a lot of money (see photos) but when we exited the car park the barrier was raised for us so we got free parking! Not sure if it was restaurant policy or they just liked us so much... There is also a public multi storey car park right opposite the restaurant which is for the Olle market but don't park there if you're here just for the KBBQ!
Spent a total of 69,000 KRW for a beer, spicy ramyeon, and the 600g of pork.
The only nitpick is that the fumes were still omnipresent even with the ventilation hood thing, but then again that's just KBBQ...
Read moreThe 5 star rating was bewildering - that’s being exceptionally generous and i’ve been to at least half a dozen joints in Jeju that’s better than this. I’ll steer clear.
I will take the sucky service out of the equation but will point out that the restaurant was 20% filled and yet didn’t stop the service staff from pushing us to sit at a 4 pax table when we had 5 and insisted on serving my steamed egg and kimchi soup at the onset of my meal. Surely that flexibility can be there? Or is this request so out of the norm?
Still I want this to be about the food and it was disappointing. If not for the beauty of the ingredients, I’m sure it would be bad.
The warning signs were there as the pork was slapped onto the grill before it was even hot. No sizzle, no anything, just slapping on the pork while waiting for the grill to heat up. And to make things worse, the different cuts were slapped on. If you can’t get this right, you shldnt be serving K BBQ.
Kimchi jiggae was just a sorry mess - surely if it’s cooked with pork, there would be more than just sour? And some how, steamed egg can be messed up - it looked the part but tasted...
