I have no idea why this place is so highly rated. When we arrived, we were brought our traditional sides which were okay, though nothing special, and rather small.
They do use real charcoal, however, which is more labor intensive, but I didn't really notice a taste difference. All the meat was pre-cut. For a 2 person set, the serving of pork was smaller than other places we'd been.
The tables and place in general were all quite unclean and the waitress with the Sakura tattoo on her arm was quite rude. I asked her a question about how to use the pork fat as I thought it was for initially greasing the grill. She just grabbed it off the grill, shaking her head and threw it back into its dish, throwing a piece of pork on instead. She never checked on us and it was difficult to even get her attention.
What really upset me, and is a big pet peeve of mine, is when they didn't bring you all of the items in the set thinking, as a tourist you won't notice. Well, they didn't bring 4: the kimchee soup, the steamed egg, some grilled mushrooms and some sausage. Only after nearly finishing our pork did I notice that all the other tables had the soup and egg. The charcoal guy gave us a dismissive "okay, okay" when we asked.
Much later, the other two dishes came at the same time that tables who had just started receiving their food also got those dishes, probably because they realized that we were observing their deceptive antics. Thanks for the afterthought! I guess accompanying sides now are their own course for the tourist.
I definitely would not recommend this gangster place, especially with the inexplicable queue out front, when just up the road they have another service and...
ย ย ย Read moreAfter a awesome hike to the summit of Mount Hallasan, decided on Korean bbq as a reward. Googled for recommendation and chose Ppolsaljib for its good reviews and 5 star ratings. Went to the restaurant at about 7pm and a crowd was already formed. Most of the waiting crowd were locals and we could tell this is a worthy discovery. Waited in line for about 30mins before we had a table. Ordered the 2 pax bbq meal. The food quality was excellent with just the right portion. Similarly to other reviews, the lady boss kept placing extras on top of what was ordered. Everything was flavored perfectly; from the marinated meats to the side dishes. We paid about 40000 won for 2 pax. Well worth the wait! Will be back for more!
Update 19-Jan-24: I kept my word and revisited this restaurant once again. Upon reaching Jeju, we came here for dinner, while skipping lunch earlier so that we had stomach for more. Indeed, the food quality and service is excellent just like our last visit 7 months ago. Similarly, Oppa boss kept placing extras on our plates on top of what we ordered. Everything tastes so good! I even got a chance to a lucky draw and walked away with a bottle of...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat Korean BBQ spot for trying Jeju black pork. We came right when they opened at 5pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately, and the place slowly filled up after. We ordered the affordable set for two, which includes several cuts of Jeju black pork, plus pork patties and sausage, both surprisingly delicious. The meat was fresh and of very good quality.
The set comes with the usual sides like lettuce leaves, garlic, and onions, and there is also a complimentary salad bar. Their kimchi stood out as some of the best we have had in Korea. Service was smooth, and one staff member spoke very good English, which was a big help.
Overall, a great place to experience Jeju black pork. The quality is excellent, though personally I still find Iberico pork a...
