When booking this hotel it was seemingly an amazing deal for 250 Canadian dollars for 5 nights. Rooftop pool, city centre, how could I go wrong. But unfortunately it was too good to be true.
Rooftop pool was closed )which I can understand) due to covid (though I feel closing an outdoor pool is either overkill or just an excuse for staff to not have to maintain/clean the pool).
The parking situation was very confusing and a headache. When going to the parkade there was no one there to help or places to park. After having to park far away and then haul our luggage to the hotel they then told us that their parking is offsite. Would have been nice if they had a sign outside.
When arriving, we found the front desk staff very rude and cold. We arrived about 30 mins early for check-in and ask if we could check in early and was met with a "no! Check in is at 3, you wait!". Ok, Didn't have to be so snappy about it but fair enough.
So my wife and her family decided to wait in the lobby until it was 3 and drink some water (it was very hot outside and we were all very dehydrated). In Korea you have to wear a mask everywhere but is allowed to pull your mask down for a moment to take a drink of your water. Apparently that was a problem for the front desk staff. Instead of walking over to ask us to not drink water inside she decided to yell at us all the way across the lobby so everyone else in the lobby could hear. And was met with alot of people staring. Pretty embarrasing - was infuriating as well. Not a good way to kick off the first impressions of Jeju Island.
Later on in that trip, my wife had lost her card to the room so we went to go ask for a new one and it was 10 dollars! I think this is the only hotel that would actually charge you for that. Definitely a first for me. Most hotels don't even care if you give the card back or not.
The rest of the trip every time we were coming out of the elevator I always felt the front desk staff was staring at us and felt very uncomfortable.
The room itself and the room service was amazing. They always cleaned our room every day and did an excellent job. Room was nice and spacious but could have used one of those usb charger hubs. Also the location is really good. All the good spots in seogwipo is within walking distance and has a 7-eleven below
Though I can't recommend this place. Usually I can deal with it if it's a one off but I really feel the staff go out of their way to not be very nice (maybe because I was non-korean?) Oh well. Not worth the money. If I ever return to Jeju (which is doubtful) I will pay a little more and stay somewhere nicer. Countless other options...
Read moreIt was our annual family trip with our parents, siblings, in-laws and children. Total 13 of us. We booked and paid in advance for 5 rooms at M-Stay Hotel via Agoda.com, all our rooms come with 1 queen size bed and 1 single bed which are meant to fit 3 person to a room. There are two very unhappy incidents which we want to share.||||Incident No.1||During our check-in on arrival at the reception, we were shocked when we were told by the receptionist that we have to pay extra for the children and we have 3 children in total! They said their hotel policy only allows 2 person to a room! We argued that the reason we paid for bigger room of 1 queen bed and 1 single bed were because we want to accommodate 2 adults and 1 child! We asked the receptionist back aren't queen size bed and single bed meant for total 3 person? They answered yes. And then we asked them back then why do we have to pay extra for the children as we have booked and paid the room meant to fit 3 person? They were speechless and can't answer our question!||||Incident No.2||In our rooms, each room only comes with 1 bath towel and 1 set of toiletries meant for only 1 person!!! How can a big room with queen size bed and single bed meant for 3 person only entitle for only 1 bath towel and 1 set of toiletries? We called up the receptionist once again to enquire and he replied it's their hotel policy to only provide 1 towel and 1 set of toiletries to a room.||||We rest our case and rest assured that we will never ever return to such a dishonest...
