(Solo Traveler/ Family suite 7th floor) I truly do not understand how this is a 4-star hotel. Let me list the "Good" first: Within walking distance (.5 miles+) of several tourist attractions and Starbucks. Large room with an excessive amount of closet space. Extremely nice and helpful staff. Washing machine, refrigerator and dining area the Family room. I choose this location mainly for the breakfast option and it's close proximity to many tourist sites without having a "touristy" feel. I read the reviews and was confident that this was the best place for the price. WRONG! When I first arrived at check on, it was apparent that they were doing some type of construction (this was not mentioned in any of the descriptions or reviews. It looked like the subway station! Dirty and loud. The 7-11 is very small and is the only way that you can warm up any food. I was willing to forgive the lack of decor, the cabbage smell in my room, the mystery stains on the couch and the overall lack of upkeep on this hotel, but I can not forgive the NO BREAKFAST! Not only do they still advertise breakfast on all booking sites, but they don't say anything about the restaurant being closed when you check in AND it's still being advertised on the elevator. I'll just make a list of issues so that you can decide for yourself: No breakfast or on site restaurant as advertised. Construction going on inside and outside of the hotel (at all times of the night) The staff speaks very little English The Family Suite did not have a stove or a microwave The photos online are at least 15 years old. Walls were cracked and chipped and badly repaired. The furniture was stained and dusty. I can go on, but I think you get the point. Spend a little more and enjoy your stay...
Read moreThis hotel is ShinShin Hotel Jeju Ocean. The address is 14 Jungang-ro, Seogwipo-si, Jeju. When you look for it on Google maps the name is in Korean. So here’s a little help for all foreign guest. Before you leave the airport change your money there if you arrive before 4pm, that’s when they close. If not then you would have to wait till the next day to exchange your funds at a local bank.
This hotel has a 7-eleven on the first floor. Also the rooms has a washer only, no dryer. So if you want to wash your clothes you can, and just hang dry them while you’re out exploring. Bring your own detergent if you can but you can purchase them at the store below.
The breakfast buffet is located at the other ShinShin hotel across the street. It’s about 15,000w or about $12. It’s ok, but if you want fast food there’s a McDonald’s 5 min bus ride or can just walk if you want to go for a stroll.
Getting here from Jeju airport is either costly or takes a while. You can take a taxi from the airport if you arrive in the evening. Cost about 46,000w or $35. The road to the hotel has lots of turns so you could get dizzy or car sick. On a cheaper route you can take the RED line 600 Airport Limousine (basically a charter bus) and get off at Saetgijeong Park, it’s right after the Jeju World Cup Stadium. There you would have a 5 min walk to the hotel. To use the public transportation I recommend getting a Tmoney Card. Not sure if there’s an app where you can auto load funds. But I highly recommend it. I use google maps to navigate around, helps with the different bus routes. Google translate also helps since Jeju is a little...
Read moreIt's quite alarming that this is considered a five or four star hotel when we were greeted by mold and mildew in the sink in the shower on the glass walls. I was literally able to wipe mold from around the edge of the sink with no effort!
And Sky Lounge... Why do you even advertise it or mention it in your signs in the elevator? It's a rooftop that is unfinished and honestly unsafe for children. It offers nearly 360-degree panoramic views and it's just wasted space. The restaurant only offers buffet breakfast with very little selection.
I'm not sure how you can consider yourself a boutique hotel when there is an additional amenities, the room shows considerable wear and tear, and reservationists lack general knowledge.
To end our trip we requested a receipt from the ladies at the front desk and we were looked at like we had 10 heads. How do you have a business and not provide receipts... We understand we've paid through this website but a holds was put on our room so of course we want proof in writing. In the middle of trying 2 communicate this to the lady behind the counter common older man pushed me and reached across my face requesting a photocopy.... the reservation lady stop what she was doing to help the gentleman. Though this may be culturally acceptable, this is not the way to treat a guest of your hotel! I would never return here or ever recommend...
