Petit Tong — Restaurant in Seoul

Having had fresh baked bread in Switzerland, France, and Germany, I was extremely disappointed in the quality of their bread. The pain au levain tasted like the typical white bread of the US. There was no signature tanginess of "sourdough," and the bread was not airy as standards would have it. It was dense without flavor.

The flours arrive in their packages already milled, but the ingredients list does a good job to present the country from which the flours are sourced (albeit there's no reference to flour type, which is standard for bread in Europe). The texture and taste of the bread is very much refined, unbleached wheat bread. I seek out non-refined wheat bread, preferably milled on-site.

The bread's outer appearance scores high though. If only the flavor matched the look. The pastries looked cute, but there are NO VEGAN PASTRIES / SWEETS here. The only vegan items are some of the breads. The prices are on the higher side for Seoul in general, but this is Seochon area where everything is pricey and trendy, so compared against that, the prices...
