This maybe the oldest tonkatsu in the area, but I won't recommend it if you are a foreigner. If you are a Running Man fan, you can find other jumbo tonkatsu restaurants on the same street with better service and they have been visited by Yu Jae Suk, Haha and Kim Jong Kook on other variety shows.
The Ahjummas don't really speak English. They stare at you if you look foreign and the whole resturarant atmosphere was awkward at dinner time. Food came out quick, pork was warm not hot, and yes, the size of dish was Jumbo but the actual pork inside the breading was thin, and you get small portion of rice since the pork itself would probably fill you up.
They did have fresh radish kimichi and pickled radish for sides. A small cream soup is automatically served upon arrival and soybean paste is available on the table as Koreans usually pair the sauce with their pork.
We did not feel comfortable so we only ordered one portion between two people in order to eat as fast as possible and get out. The waitress was definitely not happy with us, no smiles from the start. Definitely don't recommend...
Read moreThey take pride that this restaurant has been around since 1977 till now and it really shows literally with the ambiance and all especially with the floor. The food is kind of expensive (we ordered cheese-nothing fancy but a mozzarella cheese stuffed inside and spicy ) for the quality because I've had better tonkatsu here in Korea and in Japan for a relatively cheaper price but of better quality. They serve water in plastic bottles which is used for the ones sold at a convenience stores and from the looks of the bottle, I guess they just refill it every now and then which is a big no for me because I am concerned about cleaning the bottles and not just simply refilling it. The staff and most especially the owner didnt smile at all before and after we came and it is just the start of lunch time so the excuse of being busy ( bec the house was not packed at that time ) or tired is definitely not acceptable. They are very unwelcoming. I found out that the whole strip in that area are tonkatsu restaurants. We might go back in that area but defintely not...
Read moreFamous for their king size fried pork cutlet. It’s Korean style western food (경양식), so if you’re craving that type of food, this place hits the spot. But it’s nothing extraordinary. There’s a row of restaurants serving the same thing, and this place is apparently one of the best known, which is why it’s always bustling (I went at 9pm on a Sunday and was promptly seated but the place was full, which is rare for the area). But I doubt that there’s any difference in quality/taste. Pro: fast service—food comes out within 5 minutes. They serve chili peppers with pork cutlet, which helps cut down on the fat. Con: Dirty. I had to wipe down the table again myself as well as all the utensils. For the quality, it’s expensive. If you’re in the...
