I donât often review a restaurant, but Mamut is a serious restaurant that has delivered in spades. I have had several meals at the restaurants in the Tivoli la Caleta as well as Bahia del Duque, which are also stellar restaurants, but this might edge them on the quality and price.
Starting with an amuse bouche of some of the best chorizo Iâve tasted, to the fresh bread that is lightly smoked from a wood fire and accompanied by farmhouse churned butter I moved on to an interesting and very satisfying starter with cubes of cured, smoked pork belly (better than bacon, with crispy crackling) on a bed of a purĂ©e of potatoes and egg yolks. It was not small, but delicious and a bit rich with the egg yolks.
I followed this with an outstanding dry-aged bone-in sirloin which was on display in their dry-aging chamber. This, too, was cooked to perfection, quite rare, but not ridiculously so (I ordered medium rare and this was just approaching that). A side of baked potatoes from a wood oven was a perfect compliment, but not what many countries would call a baked potato in the singular. Rather, it was slices of potato with some onions and peppers that had been baked in a wood oven. The wines by the glass were also a perfect accompaniment to the food. If youâre in the Costa Adeje area, particularly near playa del duque or Caleta, this is worth...
Read moreWe recently had the pleasure of dining at Mamut Asador, being ardent fans of the Grupo La Brasa restaurants. Our experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Upon arrival, we were immediately captivated by the stunning location. The design seamlessly blends furniture, glassware, and plates with the open space and natural light, creating an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere.
The staff, including the manager and waiters, were exceptionally attentive and kind. Their professionalism shone through in their detailed presentation of the menuâs delectable offerings and their expert wine recommendations from an extensive list.
Now, let's talk about the foodâan absolute highlight! We started with the octopus, accompanied by a delightful alioli foam and carrots. The flavors were exquisite and set the stage for what was to come.
For the main course, we opted for the Turbot Fish. It was cooked to perfection, surpassing any fish we have tasted in Tenerife. The preparation and flavor were truly unmatched.
Regrettably, time constraints prevented us from sampling the dessert menu. However, this gives us the perfect reason to return at the earliest opportunity.
Mamut Asador is highly recommended for anyone seeking an extraordinary...
Read moreWe visited Mamut Asador Contemporåneo for our Christmas dinner as a family of three, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing.
The steak, which should have been the highlight of the meal, was cold and undercooked when it arrived. When we brought this to the waiterâs attention, they offered to âthrow it back on the flame.â The result? A hot crust but a still-cold and raw center. This was completely unacceptable, especially given the reputation of the place.
Additionally, the menu was extremely limited due to the holiday, with only a few main courses available. This might have been understandable if we had been informed at the time of making the reservation, but we werenât, leaving us feeling blindsided.
Overall, the food, service, and lack of transparency made this an incredibly disappointing Christmas dinner. We wonât be returning, and I wouldnât recommend it to anyone expecting quality or...
