I came here with my girlfriend, who speaks almost perfect Spanish, since she's a French-Spanish translator. I, on the other hand, don't speak much Spanish (yet), so when the waiter asked (in Spanish) if we wanted the menu in Spanish or English, we both asked for English and he came back with two menus... in Spanish. At this point we were a bit puzzled, but we just went with it.
And then it started. He kept speaking only in Spanish with my girlfriend, while I was trying to understand what he was saying. I found this to be a nice challenge at first, but it quickly became annoying, since my Spanish is very, very basic. All of a sudden, he started ranting to my girlfriend about how as a waiter he was expected to speak English, French, etc. while nobody bothered to learn Spanish. Apparently, he didn't get the memo about English being the international language of choice. He went on and on about this and just wouldn't let it go. Why someone would rant about this to their only tourist table where people actually try—and succeed!—to communicate with them in their native language is beyond me. At one point, we were really close to leaving, but we ended up staying because we really wanted to try the aged meat. A few minutes later, he finally seemed to realise his awful, patronising behaviour and came to say he apologised if he offended us, immediately following up with “but still, people who come to Spain should speak Spanish, they're in my country.” And on and on he went, like a broken record.
Throughout the meal, he kept making awkward jokes and staring at us in an attempt to be funny, which only made his case worse. When we asked for the check, he told us he had a little surprise coming, which ended up being a glass of Cava on the house. It was certainly a nice gesture, but we don't feel like it made up for his unacceptable attitude. Never have I seen a waiter be patronising to their clients, especially when said clients are being nice. To top it all off, when the bill came it turned out he had counted the water twice. He immediately corrected this when we complained about it, but it felt so cheap coming from an expensive restaurant.
Other than that, the meat was really good, but the whole experience was pretty much ruined by our waiter. Quite ironic for a restaurant which calls itself a temple...
Update regarding their response: the owner started by saying this was unacceptable behaviour and asked for a description of the waiter. He then had a talk with him, where he obviously lied, saying he wasn't aware that he was making us uncomfortable (he clearly was, otherwise he wouldn't have tried to apologise) and that his intention was to “place value on [my] girlfriend’s Spanish knowledge”.
He did invite us for a glass of wine and a starter as an apology, which was nice, but unfortunately we were already back home. Either way, the fact that he kept defending the waiter is ridiculous. There was zero misunderstanding due to the language, as he's trying to claim now. The waiter was just being...

Read moreAs a person that loves food and drinks... this place is WOW! Where to start... first the service is outstanding! The owner... you feel the passion and lovehe has for his restaurant and Meat!
It is located near a bar street but it is far enough away from the crowd so you can eat in style and peace..
Please also let the owner allow you to recommend a wine.. my personal best the red wine out of whiskey barrels.
About the meat... since they are specialized in dry aged... take the dry aged.. it is one of my top 3 steaks that i had in my life! I had the 65 days aged 1kg medium rare (dry aged is in my opinion the best for the full flavours)
Dessert? Forget the dessert and take the sangria instead! This is by far the best that i had in alicante area! This young waiter that works there really knows...
