I'm going to make a bold statement. This is the best meat you'll find in Lanzarote. This is not a fish restaurant. It is boldly and unashamedly about meat. To be fair, I've not found its equal in London either. I'm fussy and have been brought up by parents who'd rather have bought great meat from a well sourced butcher, than other things they probably should've been paying for. I nearly cried at the quality, flavour, and expertise shown at Barbacana. I racked my brain trying to work out how to come back again during our short stay, and joked about buying a flat above the restaurant. It's that good. We'd headed to the old town of Arricefe to avoid the chips and egg brigade swarming the resort towns. Beautiful, quiet, sandy beaches, pretty buildings and a sense of the history of the island were evident. Stopped at Barbacana for lunch - it states it's a Uruguayan restaurant and therefore aside from niche dishes, specialises in grilled meat. So, that's what we ordered. The mixed grill (for 2-3 but trust me, three is more accurate). Three huge cuts of steak including tenderloin, rib, and I can't even remember the third but it was all soft, delicious and perfectly seasoned. These were accompanied by the very best black pudding I've ever had, a local meaty sausage, local spicy sausage, beef ribs, potatoes and salad. All served with a divine chimmichuri sauce, garlic mayonnaise and extra sea salt. Oh, and a huge salad. For 49 euros. That's about 42 quid. You can't get a good steak for much less in London, let alone what looked like half a cow. However, this is about quality, not quantity. The quality was superb. A huge shout out to the lovely staff who made everything even better, including not letting us sit on a table that about 50 mins later turned into a full sun spot. Note: kids on next table had burgers and I genuinely thought about getting some cooked up to take away ( along with the large amount of meat we couldn't get through). I will find a way back to...
Read moreIf you are looking for proteins, here is a place serving some tender and juicy steaks from Uruguay. We went for a boneless fore rib - rare (a tomahawk with no bone) and a beef low loin - medium/rare (thinner cut, go for rare if you want a medium rare though…), both served with vegetable, fries and sauces (chimichurry and garlic sauce). Both were very tasty (with or without sauces) and juicy. We ended with a chocholate coulant cake, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and cream. Venue and service: Placed in the old town near the Parroquia de San Ginés, this restaurant is a very easy place, with few tables available in a calm street. Staff is caring and gentle. Read moreBefore we went here to eat, we read some reviews, that it is "quiet" expensive,....but guys 2 main dishes (500g Prime RIB & 300g Filet steak) 2 soft drinks and 2 breads with 3 sauces for 51,79 euro is that really expensive ? ( The only thing what confused us for a sec. was the 7% Vat they charge to the price, but its was only 3 somthing euro in our case.)
The food was really good and the staff was really friendly and helpful. The area were this restaurant is, gave us local vibe. We would come again.
Thanks Barbacana Bar & Grill Team for the...
