As we are staying at the Arrecife Grand Hotel, we thought we would give the restaurant a try on our second night. So, on Wednesday 30th April 2025 my husband and I booked in for dinner at 7.00pm.
Our first impression was wow this is a lovely restaurant and the gentleman who greeted us was friendly and helpful. We were both very surprised that we were the only customers in there.
The waiter came to ask us if we would like him to recommend something from the wine list, I asked if they had Chardonnay as it’s my favourite wine, he laughed and told me that we wouldn’t find Chardonnay on this wine list which made me feel a little silly for asking.
I ordered the aged beef loin, the waiter suggested some potatoes to go with it so I ordered those too. My husband ordered Albanian pork also with a side of potatoes.
When our meals came, I was surprised that mine was just a piece of meat, cooked, put on a fancy plate and covered in salt. No garnish, no green bits of anything, no sauce, not even half a tomato for a bit of colour. The potatoes were just boiled baby potatoes with yet more salt in a small dish which cost an extra €9 on top of the €34 for the meat on a plate. My husbands pork was mediocre and something I could have made at home, nothing special. Our entire bill including a bottle of wine (not Chardonnay) came to €140 for essentially something I could have made at home. I would also like to mention that this is not our first time dining at fine dining establishments.
I did however, enjoy the dessert which was a chocolate baba. My husband also enjoyed his tiramisu.
You cannot fault the staff they were attentive and helpful but value for money, especially attached to a 5 star hotel, did not meet our...

We visited this restaurant once prior to this evening and had what was a pretty poor experience, this was purely down to the food just not being up to standard. The service was faultless, the drinks were exceptional, the food was terrible.
Tonight’s experience;
Again the staff and service is a 10/10 whenever you come to this restaurant, the drinks again were 10/10 faultless bartending, the atmosphere and views are 10/10 a beautiful restaurant, and the food this time was 10/10.
This restaurants backbone is its staff/leaders. Gustavo is a true professional who walked us through the menu and helped us with some fine suggestions. The tartar was fresh and creamy, the pork sandwich was rich and soft, the leek was smooth and packed full of flavour and the Wagyu beef was to die for.
If you have not been to Alarz in the Arrecife Gran Hotel and Resort, I would highly recommend, I have attached some pictures so anyone reading this review can see how exceptional the standards are in this establishment.
To the everybody at Alarz from Gustavo, the waitresses all the way to the kitchen, thank you for the complete 180 experience we had an amazing evening, felt truly looked after and the food was exceptional.
We know where to go in Arrecife and Alarz, WE...
Read moreWe chose Alarz Bahia for a family dinner based on recommendations. The ambiance was pleasant, but the lighting could use improvement. The current setup casts an orange glow over everything, including the plates, which detracts from the presentation.
The staff was friendly and attentive, but I noticed a couple of service oversights. After I finished my first glass of wine, no one offered another, which felt like a missed opportunity. Additionally, when we finished our meal, I had to wait for someone to notice and ask if we were ready for the bill. Eventually, I got up and paid at the front desk.
We ordered three dishes and waited over 40 minutes, despite the restaurant being nearly empty.
The food was tasty; the fish was well-cooked and decent, but nothing exceptional. However, the portion sizes were extremely small. From one average-sized fish (turbot) they managed to serve 4–6 portions, which is simply insufficient per plate. There were no sides included (3 asparagus), and this was not a tasting menu.
The highlight of the evening was the dessert—moist, creative, and delicious.
All in all, I’m not sure I...
