My wife and I were tourists who stopped here on a Tuesday evening for a drink. The drinks were just okay. Not great, but not horrible. Our bartender was not especially friendly or social. The bar was mostly empty when we were there. There were no other customers, just the bartender, and other employees sitting at a table in a room adjacent to the bar.
Unfortunately after leaving, and traveling via the Metro, we realized that weâd left 2 bags there. We called the phone number shown in Google multiple times from our cell phones but got no answers. When we reached our hotel, the Hotel Europark, the very kind woman at the front desk was able to reach a manager/owner using the hotelâs landline. She also translated for us. The manager told us heâd contact the bar and make them aware of what had happened. We immediately went back. When we arrived less than 30 minutes had passed and we spoke to the same bartender who served us before. He told us he hadnât seen anything and that no one else had come in. This establishment isnât that big. Again, there was only one bartender, and a few other employees (servers I presume) who were sitting at the same table as they were when we originally left. I have a photo of my wife holding the bags 30 meters from the bar entrance. That photo is time stamped 20 minutes before I closed our tab, so we know for certain the bags were at this location. I asked if any of the other employees had seen anything, he said, ââno.â
Itâs possible that if the bartender stepped away momentarily, someone else entered the bar, took our things, and left without being seen. Itâs more likely that the bartender was NOT telling the truth; that someone who works there took our things or knows who did. It would not surprise me to find out if other visitors have âlostâ important and/or expensive items at this establishment.
Donât take the risk. Itâs not worth it. There are plenty of other establishments that are in a safer location, with friendlier service, and...
Read moreThis cozy little cocktail bar tucked away on a quiet street just hits different. The atmosphere is hard to describe, kind of magical, like the air itself knows youâre about to have a good time. The lighting is soft but somehow dramatic, and thereâs this feeling that everyone behind the bar really cares about what they do.
Speaking of the bar, the drinks? Wow. Just wow. I donât usually go for cocktails, but somehow they knew exactly what I liked, without me even saying it. Incredible intuition, honestly. The bartender (didnât catch their name) has this calm, confident energy, you can tell theyâre passionate about their craft. You can literally taste the love (I mean⊠dedication) in every drink.
I went with some friends, and we all agreed it felt unusually personal, like the bar itself was flirting with us. The music was smooth, the crowd chill, and I may or may not have caught myself smiling at the bar a bit too much.
If youâre looking for a place that feels both intimate and exciting, where time kind of melts away and every drink feels like it was made just for you, this is it. Canât wait to âaccidentallyâ end up...
Read moreWhat a glorious way to end our few days in Barcelona! Stumbled upon Ascensor as we were leaving a tapas bar nearby. The entrance is via two beautiful wooden sliding doors. One of which was later very lucky to still be sliding as a young woman nearly broke it a she struggled to negotiate the exit.
On to the main point of this review. The drinks. They do a great range of classics, and some of their own inventions. They made us (my wife and I) some of the best cocktails we've ever had. My wife's dry martini was total perfection, as was my sazerac. And the other three drinks each we had were all also superb.
We had a warm welcome, and a good chat with a regular of the bar. I cannot recommend Ascensor highly enough. If you like cocktails and are in Barcelona, ...
