Bol is small salad/smoothie cafe near my apartment. The concept is great and they have quite the varied menu of salads, acai bowls, smoothies and milkshakes. I really want Bol to rectify their issues regarding cleanliness and food preparation as it's close and convenient. The other day I stopped by and ordered a take away Burrito Salad Bowl with chicken. The staff member was courteous and friendly. However, she was only wearing one glove, the other hand was bare. Their food prep station is visible and she repeatedly was scooping up the ingredients and sweeping them with her ungloved hand and placing them into the takeaway container. Ewww! I thought this was a one-off situation so I went back the following week to give them a chance and another staff member was doing the same thing; one gloved hand the other bare. This is not only unacceptable during a pandemic, it's disgusting in general. The staff members handle the cash register (dirty coins and bills). Hands were not washed after their cash register duties nor were new gloves worn. I thought maybe I just had bad luck, so I asked a few friends who've been and they've noticed the same thing. Read moreI’ve been a couple of times before this place, the service is usually slow but acceptable if everything else goes well. But today I had a different experience.
While I was waiting, sitting in front of the bar I noticed that the girl who took my order (cash payments), was also preparing the food without gloves, she even touched the food! Thankfully not my order. I paid attention to it and later she was wearing one, once her colleague arrived.
When I finally got my bowl it arrived with overly toasted bread, the size of the bowl was also smaller than usual. Besides the bowl, I ordered a coffee as well but I had to ask for it well after receiving my food.. 3 staff members walking around but only one really working (slow, checking her phone in the meantime too). Then it seemed that there was a problem with the bean machine and they offered me to choose something else. Although the guy was very friendly who took over from the girl, I had to ask for the change of my drink. It would have been nice seen the whole situation if they just returned me the money for my drink in full because of the inconvenience.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I'm not saying that it was the fault of Bol that the tips was charged, but I was not familiar with this system so I haven't imagined that it would happen, so I just tapped button "Sí" without looking other thing as I thought it was just to proceed the payment, over all, tips of 3 euros for a drink which costs less than 6 euros is more than 50% which I think is way too much, also, tips are normally given for the service after serving the food/drink, not before serving anything at cash register....so for me it was a tricky and strange system... It was my responsibility accepting to add the tips, which was true, which was what the stuff said to me....so it is kind of you to refund me the 3 euros....I have just felt the communication was not very easy, not friendly throughout the experience....
