We went there for dinner an hour before closing with only Google translate to make ourselves understood. We expected to be rushed or in the best case scenario, given the necessary information and then left alone to figure things out on our own. Instead, the owner, a lovely, gracious man took care of us, three bungling tourists, from start to finish. He made us feel like we were his guests and not just his customers. In the middle of the meal, we asked what time he needed to close the bar and he said something to the effect of 'Whenever. Just relax.'

The food was good, honest, wholesome grub. We had the jamon, which was good. The lacon (pork) was not too fatty but very tender. The caracoles (snails) were done just right and came in a tomato sauce, redolent with smoky pimenton. The albondigas (meatballs) were soft and yielding, and the accompanying tomato sauce was mild and almost creamy. To end the meal (even though we were stuffed), we had the flan, which was delicious and tasted of egg, cream, and vanilla.

It was home cooking done very well, and the kindness with which we were treated just made the whole experience very special.

We went back again for lunch. A lady and a young man were handling service. The place was full and the service was efficient but no less kindly. We had the set menu and immediately understood why the restaurant was packed. The food was delicious and clearly homemade. The lasagne and pork knuckle were...

Ayer fuimos a comer, mi señora y yo al Restaurante Baixa Limia. Gran descubrimiento.
