Although my time in Barcelona was short, I did attempt seeking out bars and eateries serving modern IPAs from the East coast. This bar and its beer selection was the best that I found at the time catering to hazy New england-style IPAs from Europe and the US. The several beers I tried were all incredibly fresh, and you waiters and bartenders all seem to have a decent knowledge of what they were serving. The prices are quite high compared to what some might be used to for beer-out, ranging from 5 euros for a small pour to 8+ for a full pour, but if you frequented "craft beer" bars this is about average, unfortunately.
On top of the excellent draft selection they also have an array of tapas and small bites that were beautifully prepared. Some traditional and some experimental. The quality of the food was so good that this could actually be a dinner spot more than just a stop for beer. There is also a bottle shop with cans and bottles of a similar eclecticism as the bar, although prices are similarly high and represent draft...
Read moreA huge beer shop with tapas and food (and wifi - but you need to ask for the code) furnished long benches and high tables, reminiscent of a Bavarian beer hall.
The varieties of beers are worldwide - from Belgium, Denmark, Germany - and depicted with descriptions up on two large screens so it's possible to choose by number. Given I'd travelled a lot of Europe I ended up looking for something I couldn't normally get and ended up picking three Spanish ones.
Service was quite fast - beers came quickly as did the tapas snacks I ordered, which didn't amount to a huge meal but was sufficient to complement the beer. The environment is quite noisy as there's lots of people, but I found their music choice (Undertones, Ramones, Madness) quite appealing
It's a bit pricey (they take credit card) but a great experience, well worth the visit. A must to introduce local beer lovers into the ranges other countries have to offer - especially some Bavarian or...
Read moreBierCab has a wide selection of beers including several imperial stouts, Hazy IPAs, fruit sours and lagers. They're grouped together on a numbered menu (1-5 are stouts, 6-15 are Hazy IPAs, etc.) which is great for ordering when you can't pronounce the name of the beer.
The food is amazing as well, I explored the menu several times with my roommate and we were blown away every time. The batwings (not actual bats, it was chicken) had great flavor, the grilled wagyu beef with chimichurri was so tender and flavorful, the sautéed mushrooms created and plated by a master, I could go on and on. Finally while not traditional, the Spanish mórcon chorizo and honey croquettes were phenomenal and a must try.
Finally, prices (from an American opinion) were great! €5 for a 25cl beer, €10 for 50cl, and the only food greater than €10 on the menu were either a special, or a plate of...
