Onefam Batlló, you have my heart!
Read moreThis hostel brings all of the things you hope for from a hostel into a single package. Staff is super friendly and bubbly once you get to know them. A daily outing and nightly bar crawl to one of the bars they either own or have deals with provided a bit of structure for those times when you're not sure what to do.
The rooms are nice, with built in wooden bunks with nice privacy curtains that make it easy to sleep at any time of the day. Lockable cabinets underneath the beds for each person are great for storing things out of the way (bring your own lock). Communal showers, toilets, and sinks are fine and function well for a communal environment.
The location is great. Close to the A1/A2 airport buses as well as a number of local metro and bus stations that make it easy to get around town. The neighborhood is full of eateries of all types and budgets as well as a convenience store right across the street. The kitchen is rather typical and they include free tea and coffee though don't expect it to be much better than what you would find at a service station.
This is an age restricted hostel as it is geared towards the younger party crowd. When I booked it on the same day I checked in, the age limit was 45 but I was informed when I checked in that they had in fact changed the limit to 38. That was annoying, but they "let" me stay for the two nights I had booked.
On the downside, they take absolutely no precautions for COVID. No masking, no sanitizer, or anything. Feeling awkward at check in due to my age (42), I jumped on board with this and realized that night how several people in each room were coughing to the point that I wore a mask all night and woke several times as a result of the noise.
I took a test before my flight the morning I checked out and found that I had come down with asymptomatic COVID. That was awesome and forced me to stay in Barcelona for more than an extra week, which was expensive and took a toll back at home. I informed the manager and a few of the staff that I caught COVID at the hostel and Maxime just brushed it off.
Overall, if you catch this place between COVID waves, you're probably in for a good time. If you are at all worried about COVID, it's probably not a good idea. I used to stay in hostels all the time and this place helped wake me up with an expensive lesson about how that's not a great...
Read moreI stayed here for three nights as a first time solo traveller, also my first time in a hostel. I picked this hostel due to high reviews and location and it did not disappoint.
It only took me approx 15 minutes to walk from Placa de Catalunya to the hostel where I was welcomed by the lovely Ara (who has sadly now left on her own travels). I was given a quick tour and shown my bunk area.
In terms of facilities I had absolutely no issues. Bunk and bedding all comfy with personal light, little shelf and USB charging points. Individual curtains on the beds are a big bonus which create that extra bit of privacy. You will get some noise with people coming and going at different times but you would be unrealistic not to expect this in a hostel. Storage space below bunk had plenty room for my backpack and clothes. Shared toilet/showers were all in good working order and clean, good shower pressure which I always appreciate. Shared kitchen facilities were all good, anything you bought you just had to label. Plenty of places to chill and chat.
The real star of the hostel is the people. Firstly the staff who will help any way they can, talk away with you and just have a good time with you. Every day activities are organised, followed by family dinners, drinking games and then out to the bar and club. You are free to join in as and when you please on these and can keep up to date on the hostel board and whatsapp. All are a great way of getting involved and meeting new people as a solo traveller. I was slightly anxious being an introvert, but I tried to put myself out there and was responded to in kindness by the staff and other travellers. I got talking to people from all around the world in my three days and it was a valuable takeaway from my experience.
I would happily stay at this hostel again. My special thanks to all the staff who's names I cant all remember (Ara, Sun, guy from Venice and especially Trevor). Trevor is a larger than life character and a brilliant asset to this hostel, not to mention...
