My wife and I ventured to Barcelona from the UK to celebrate her birthday, and as part of our pre-planned itinerary, we stumbled upon Can Plaça while exploring the town. Initially enticed by its charming exterior and the promising 4.5-star Google reviews, we decided to give it a try for a midday meal.
Opting for the seafood grilled platter and a shared salad, accompanied by two delightful cocktails, we anticipated a pleasant dining experience. However, our hopes were dashed when we discovered an unpleasant surprise while indulging in the lobster—a sticky, black substance inside the crustacean. Despite the waiter's attempt to dismiss it as seasoning, my adherence to a pescatarian diet and subsequent research revealed it to be undercooked lobster eggs, indicative of uncooked lobster meat.
The staff offered to rectify the issue after the chef confirmed it was indeed undercooked by preparing a new dish, the experience had already soured our appetites. While they deducted the cost of the drinks from the bill, the damage had been done. It's regrettable that a restaurant of Can Plaça's reputation would serve such subpar fare, let alone charge patrons for it.
As the day progressed, the repercussions of our meal became apparent. I found myself violently ill mere hours later, unable to enjoy our previously scheduled dinner reservations, while my partner suffered a similar fate later in the evening.
In hindsight, our decision to dine at Can Plaça proved to be a grave mistake. I caution others to steer clear of this establishment, as our experience was not only disappointing but also potentially hazardous to our health. It pains me to recount such a negative experience, but it is imperative to heed this warning to avoid similar misfortunes.
Considering we was only here for 1 night in celebration, it diminished any opportunity to enjoy our evening and subsequently, we are travelling back to the UK feeling unwell.
To add:
Thank you for your response and for extending anniversary wishes to us. I appreciate your efforts to address the concerns raised during our recent dining experience at Can Plaça.
Regarding the issue with the lobster, while I did research about the black jelly, it was not to find fault but rather to understand the situation better. I must clarify that I didn't refuse the offer to change the platter out of stubbornness, but rather due to time constraints, as we had pre-existing reservations at the Aire spa.
I understand your commitment to providing fresh seafood and acknowledge that undercooked lobster doesn't necessarily mean it was bad. However, the undercooked texture, as well as the unpleasant look of the inside of the lobster, did affect our enjoyment of the meal, and unfortunately, it led to around half of the portion of the dish being left uneaten.
In terms of improvement suggestions, perhaps ensuring thorough cooking and providing clear communication about the possibility of variations in seafood texture could help manage customer expectations and mitigate dissatisfaction in similar situations.
Thank you for your openness to feedback and willingness to learn from this experience.
Once again, thank you for your response and best wishes for continued success at Can...

Read moreFood was, without exaggeration, excellent. We were very happy. My wife looked up reviews on neighborhood restaurants and it had a 4.7 rating. We had the grilled veggie plate - plenty for one or great to share and a good variety of vegetables; seasoned and cooked well, not overcooked, but not left raw either. We also had the garlic shrimp, shell off. Wonderful flavor, but only 8 relatively small shrimp - makes a great appetizer. Not overly seasoned with garlic. A hot dish that was surprisingly good. Lastly we had the seafood paella - a real winner. They also had a squid ink paella, but didn’t have that one. The ink turns the rice black, but doesn’t alter the flavor appreciably. Lastly we shared the grilled Sole with salad. Fish was seasoned well, although a little dry. The fish is filleted thin, making it moist would seem challenging. We did not eat any on the salad that accompanied the Sole. We highly recommend this restaurant. Everything was just €67. All in all a really good experience and reasonably priced. We would return...
