This was a huge surprise!
Normally, when I see fushion places and especially such clearly "hipster" venues, I don't have high hopes. But Chamako actually succeeded well.
Yes, it's got that cool, edgy street art hipster vibe. There is graffiti and pasteups on the walls. Neon lighting. Swear words. Very young staff with young(ish) customers. All the hallmarks of some quirky Asian fushion joint to appeal to zoomers and millennials. The thing is, it can work. Not every venture like this is bound to be cringe... if the food hits.
And it does. There are a lot of Mexican places in Barcelona. I don't know why exactly, nor how good they generally are, but there are a lot. This one, I am guessing, is different. The mainly Japanese-inspired fushion actually works.
There is the guacamole "show," which is essentially tableside guac making. It's quirky and fun for the right sorts of people, but a little awkward for others. If you don't want to be the centre of attention, just order the guac without the show. But if you don't get the show, you'll miss out on the AMAZING spicy dark chocolate truffle. I probably would have added more lime and pepper for myself, but it was a solid guac and the chips were excellent.
The ceviche was totally delicious! Very refreshing. Acidity was perfect and the fish incredibly fresh and smooth.
The only nachos we could order were the Nipon style because unfortunately every other option had truffle oil in the cheese. Why??? That was probably the biggest disappointment. I don't know why people like it, but there should be some dishes with it and some without because some people hate it. It's like cilantro.
The pork cheek tacos were far less Asian fushion and more Greek fushion. But they were tasty all the same, and the meat succulent.
I didn't try the cocktails cos it wasn't that sort of night, but I would have liked to. They have a very large bar.
Overall, we had a surprisingly good time and would definitely...
Read moreWith a little bit of delay, but with a lot of good memories and love, I would like to say that there are some places and some people that you meet by chance but they stay in your heart forever. And one such place is this wonderful and cosy restaurant in the heart of Barcelona. However the atmosphere of this place would not have been the same without the people who work there, those are some of the nicest people we met in Spain-they are not only professionals in their field, but also extremely helpful, spirited and warm hearted. We were pleasantly surprised by the extraordinary fusion menu and that every bite was filled with the delicious flavours of two amazing cuisines which paired together create a perfect harmony. Moreover our friends there gave us the best advise, based on our mood and preferences for the day. However, I can't miss the amazing bartenders who prepared the most interesting drinks that I have ever tried, also the one thing that certainly makes this place stand out is the great rap music with real classics from the 90's. And last but not least I would like to personally thank the two people that made us feel like we were home at this wonderful place. So Victor (Adash) and Paola you will stay in our hearts forever, thank you once again and you know you are always welcome to Bulgaria. Feliz Navidad and hopefully 2024 will be even better than the...
Read moreWe came with the intention of drinking a little wine and grab some snacks.
We didn't know it would be the best restaurant we'd have the pleasure to check in Barcelona.
We came in. And Luna (aka greatest waitress in the world) greeted us inside.
She gave us some tips about the best dishes, and we decided we'd go with her advice because she was so nice!
We ordered Bravas, Nachos, Salmon & Avocado tartar, Mini Burgers and Ravioli, a bottle of amazing white wine and a beautiful and super tasty cocktail. Everything, without exception, was jaw dropping!!! Checkout the pictures.
I can't express, everything was so good! And we weren't event hungry!! We just ate a dish and ordered another one, and another one, and another one, because each one was so good!!!!!
The atmosphere was perfect. The service was impeccable. And the food was too good to describe.
Allot of reviewers leave in their reviews the line "hidden gem", but gems are rare and precious, and so I am hesitant when I use this phrase.
But this one, this one truly is, the Hidden Gem of Barcelona. And it's hard for me to leave a review. Because I don't want more people to know about it. I want it to be, all...
