El Rincón de la Abuela Venezolana — Restaurant in Barcelona

There are three things you need to know about this place: one is that it's very popular, the second that its very small and the third that it doesn't accept reservations. Having these facts in mind, it's easier to understand some rules that the owners pose, which might otherwise appear unconventional: the 'first came - first served' - operating principal, the priority list, the outdoors queuing, the occasional slow service. It is as it is and it is within the rights of the dueño/a to manage his or her shop as he/she sees fit. By the same token, it is up to the guest - provided he is aware of the facts - if he/she is willing to face some discomfort for the compensation of a good meal. I didn't had any previous knowledge of the cuina venezolana. I found abuela's food good, I liked everything we tried. I am not the appropriate person to judge if it is the 'best-in-town' like some reviewers wrote, as I lack a measure for comparison. Horrible service. As someone who has lived 5 years in Barcelona, this is the hands down the worst service and experience I have ever had. We arrived as a Group of 4, we had to wait 30 mins before we got the table which was okay despite tables being empty. When we asked to them to bring the menu, it was another 15 mins. The servers were extremely rude throughout the thing, telling us that we are not special and we had wait like everyone else. Once she took the order, we waited 1 hour for the food, nothing came while at least 15 people after us were served. We realised they decided to intentionally delay our food, after waiting 1 hour and 20 mins, we told them we would play after drinks. They didn’t say sorry or what happened, just said okay. I was shocked honestly, never had something like this. We were super respectful the entire time and we had two Latin Americans in our group, I am so confused with this experience. We went to buy plantain leaves, tequeños and cheese. After asking for the stuff we kept waiting for about 20 min with no explanation whatsoever of the reason for the wait. After a while we understood they sent someone to get the tequeños somewhere else. While waiting we asked the person behind the bar to please accept our payment (so we would not have to wait additional time because they seemed very slow). Five minutes after that the girl who went to get the tequeños came back empty handed and we heard her saying "there is nothing". After waiting additional time for the owner to finish talking with some customer the cashier informed him he had to return our money and the owner walked inside the restaurant instead of immediately giving our money back (also with no communication or information whatsoever)... he came shortly after that and finally returned the money.
