Come here at your own peril. You risk exposure to sublime flavors. For instance, superb padron peppers, with just enough salt to make them crisp but not too little to make them taste insipid. Truly fresh and flamboyant razor clams, cooked with the know-how of a select few. Try to cooked this at home, I dare you. The sautéed mushroom beef was so tender and exquisite (and not overcooked,) it outshone the recent beefs in my life. The flan was sweet to an intoxicating degree. I wanted another one but my belt has officially ran out of holes.
Delicious, to say the least.
The wine was proper good. Great implementation of pairing skills displayed. This place is very gentlemanly and slightly spiffy but in the old-school way, charming in its way. The attitude of the staff is serious but relaxed, and contributes in many ways to the overall experience. This is one of those places where the youth learn to shut up and appreciate the old ways that are currently being forgotten. Here, aunts and uncles will guide you and tell you to stray from the TikTok wastelands. Here you may come to learn of slower ways to eat rather than munch. A higher quality that was once standard (and unfortunately these scrawny younglings can't seem to get it). How to use a napkin and not make noise when you eat, so as to respect others around you. How to eat with correctness and still enjoy yourself fully. These places represent more than what they serve in their traditional dishes. They hold many keys, not just the ones to the kitchen and back door entrance. Don't squander away. I came here in 2019. My half Catalan cousin brought me along with pure intentions of continuation. He knew what was good in the hood. And now I know...
Read moreThese people put a plate of food in front of me that made me want to abandon my home and move in with them. I visited in February. The welcome was warm and sincere, despite them being very, very busy. Catalan and Spanish voices were all around me with no tourists to be heard except us. Local families and couples filled the place. My young daughter ate a top notch paella. I had a black rice and seafood dish and practically melted into the chair. It was exactly the kind of honest and utterly delicious food I had been looking for in Barcelona. I asked the waiter to give me a glass of whatever wine he would drink with the dish and he poured me a perfect match. He didn’t take advantage of the request as so many restaurants would. He gave me a modest wine that met the food beautifully. I can’t praise this place enough. It’s not gaudy, it’s not chintzy, it’s doesn’t scream about itself. The food does that for them. I had three days in Barcelona and we packed a lot into our time there. But this place is the first memory that comes into my head when I think back to our time there. THAT’s what I was...
Read moreDelicious all around, and wonderful service. We ordered the menu del dia, with the carpaccio bacalao, pisto, paella especial, and crema catalana and flan. The carpaccio was absolutely incredible- flavors were so intricate almost had a smoked fish flavor but was light and delicate. Pisto was very simple but seasoned very well. The paella was wonderful, beautifully seasoned and large portion. The razorclam was in particular a great addition. We loved the desserts as well. All in all a great dinner. Ambiance could use a little help- Aircon wasn't doing much and it was really warm. Would have preferred some outdoor seating. Wait staff was lovely and patient, even with some very picky and annoying people next to us. Highly recommended! We will...
