We had the “joy” of going to Fishølogy the other day for dinner. I put joy in brackets as it ended up being one of the worst experiences of the year. We arrived and a great welcome by their very competent waiting staff, they explained the menus and we went for the large tasting menu with an added dry aged fish steak. As I was travelling the next day we opted for their homemade iced teas and water.
The menu itself started with a weird chickpea and seaweed cracker, it tasted more like cardboard or dog biscuits than anything else.
Then we had some beautiful oysters with cucumber ice cream.
We continued through the meal with ups and downs, as noted in many reviews the sizes of the plates and the amounts of fish served is small. As in tiny, some dishes contain relatively cheap fish, so you could for example expect to get a full red mullet filet, nope, not here, here you get half. Same applies to the stingray dish.
The fish charcuterie board was interesting however some the flavours were a bit weird, same thing can be said for a lot of the cured fish they served. The plates weren’t always finalised with finesse, to ensure a great dining experience, instead it seemed like the chef was in a hurry to get on to the next ones. Examples of this are the fish anticucho and the “warm” mushroom broth.
A few exceptions were the red shrimp tartare and the scallop dishes, both beautiful and tasty!
The serve throughout was quick and thoughtful, loved the service!
We ended up with a bill of €260 which included 2 menus, the fish steak, water and 4 teas! That’s very expensive for the amount and quality of the food and we were leaving not hungry but also not very full.
That feeling would’ve been ok, if it wasn’t because both of us got food poisoning and ended up vomiting up all the food all night long. After contacting the restaurant to warn them we were told that “many people in Barcelona are suffering from a gastroenteritis virus”. What a load of BS!
I would not recommend Fishølogy (why the ø?!) to anyone that wants to enjoy food either during or...
Read moreI had a reservation for today (August 27, 2023) afternoon for my husbands birthday. We drove an hour into Barcelona for this special meal. When we got to the restaurant it was closed. My confirmation email from the restaurant said I would get charged if I did not cancel. Unfortunately it seems the restaurant can close without notice and without notifying clients with reservations. This was extremely disappointing and incredibly unprofessional.
Your response to my review shows even worse customer service. I left a message at the restaurant the same afternoon requesting a call back that was not received. I’m happy to send you the copy of the reservation made by your restaurant (not google) for that time and date. I made the reservation on your website directly a couple of months ago. Also, if you look at your website you are listed as being open on Sundays for the afternoon and night meals. Clearly very poor service...
Read moreA 20-25 seats small, elegant place with a nice and intimate atmosphere, the owners are a young couple Riccardo leading the kitchen and Giulia responsible to provide flow less service and make you feel like at home The idea to age fish using the same or similar method as meats it’s just genial! The fish charcuterie platter it’s a must not to mention the selection of oysters done in different way. There are unusual dishes and specialties such as cured tuna heart and even a sardine mascarpone tiramisù This is one of the kind in Barcelona. I also learn that Riccardo and Giulia prior opening this place have worked 3 years at Desfrutar recently voted and selected has the best restaurant in the world , this clearly reflects their cuisine ,attention to details and impeccable service we have experienced at dinner time. Definitely a place to try while...
