I've spent the last year trying out all the ice cream parlours of Barcelona... Well, not all of them but as much as I could. I've decided that, although I already have my favorites, there must be new experiences to live outside of that comfort zone. In that quest, a few weeks ago, I took a group of friends to try Gelateria Da Gallo, which I had seen not much before while wandering around the city. They have quite a large choice, but they don't offer anything out of the ordinary. The prices are pretty standard now, although I think they had recently raised all of them by €1 (in the case of the medium cup, it's almost 30%!). That's sad. 🥲 Anyway, the quantities served for these prices are huge, which makes the ice cream affordable in the end (if you like eating a lot, because €3.50 for a "small" ice cream is quite a lot for Barcelona). Whether the ice cream is expensive or not almost is irrelevant because eating Da Gallo's really is a unique experience. 🤩 The structure of the ice cream is very unusual. It's hard to describe but let's say that it almost felt like I was eating pistachio and hazelnut paste instead of ice cream. Same for the taste, which was very strong: you really could feel the flavor and not so much the cream, which is perfect for me. On top of it, the staff is nice and patient. Besides, they let you put 2 different flavors in a small ice cream cup/cone, which nowadays is less and less usual.

Read moreI ordered having read super positive reviews of the place. let's get to the tastes I tried.
Cheesecake: more a milk taste, the taste of fresh cheese non-existent, good pieces of biscuits but far too few, almost non-existent, a little better with strawberry mix but still insufficient. 2/5
Tiramisu: very delicate, the coffee flavor of fresh mascarpone is barely felt. a slight aroma of liqueur is perceived and too few savoiardi biscuits and not always soaked in coffee. 2/5
Cassata: fragrant taste like rose water, no presence of ricotta cheese and its aroma, pieces of pistachio present and not even the shadow of chocolate chocolate chips. 2/5
Kinder bueno: : having been as a child and still being a big fan of Kinder Bueno I wanted to try this taste as I do in other ice cream parlors. I rhyme very disappointed, it doesn't even come close to Kinder bueno: no nutty flavor, insufficient wafers and...
Read moreAs soon as we entered the quaint storefront, Elisa greeted us with her warm smile and an inviting “Hola!/Hi!”. Nicole and I knew immediately we were at the right place to enjoy some delicious treats! Nicole enjoyed a small glass of Lemon mixed with fresh strawberry sorbet. From her first to the last delicious spoonful, her smile was beaming with great joy. 🤩
I chose a triple scoop of Papaya, Mango, and Maracuya (Passion Fruit). The tropical combination was both refreshing and delicious! Even Nicole was impressed with how scrumptious the Mango tasted. If you’re in Barcelona for even 1 day, enjoy a much needed treat!
PS: Elisa’s salesmanship easily convinced me to plus up my initial double scoop to a triple....
