We had a horrible experience here. Waited a long time to have our orders taken. The waitress was confused about our food orders of water and wine and brought us watered down wine…then I received my food. The person gnocchi with cheese barely had any cheese and was just okay. The “focaccia with rosemary” was an 8 euro burnt thin pizza crust with no rosemary on it (big disappointment I didn’t eat it). But the worst part was the service. About 10 mins after my food had arrived but my friend’s didn’t, I flagged down a waitress to ask where her lasagna was. She instantly said it was still cooking and coming soon, which sounded like she was just making it up to appease us. Then after I had finished my food and we had been at the restaurant for 50 minutes, we flagged down our original server to tell her my friend’s lasagna never arrived and we were upset about the bad service. She said my friend never ordered lasagna (she did), she gave me nasty looks, then asked if we wanted them to make the lasagna (we didn’t, we had to leave), and then threw up her hands and said “no problema” since we weren’t going to be charged for the missing lasagna. She was very hostile and rude and I couldn’t believe the looks she was giving us. In the end, the manager discounted my food but it was still overpriced for what it was even with a “discount” and my friend went home hungry with both of us upset about how we were treated. When the manager asked who our rude server was and we told her, she didn’t seem surprised. I rarely leave negative reviews but I would never...
Read moreMadre Lievito in Eixample is a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates authentic Italian pizza and a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly baked dough and bubbling tomato sauce instantly tells you you're in for a treat. The interior is cozy but stylish, blending modern minimalism with rustic Italian charm, and the staff are warm, attentive, and passionate about their craft.
The highlight, without a doubt, is their pizza. Madre Lievito uses slow-fermented dough, which results in a perfectly airy, chewy, and digestible crust. The ingredients are top-notch — many sourced directly from Italy — and you can taste the quality in every bite. The Margherita is a perfect balance of tangy San Marzano tomatoes, creamy mozzarella fior di latte, and fresh basil. For something more adventurous, the 'Nduja pizza delivers a spicy kick that pairs perfectly with a cold Italian beer or one of their natural wines.
Beyond pizza, the menu also includes delicious starters and desserts — the burrata with cherry tomatoes is a must, and their tiramisu is rich, creamy, and indulgent.
Prices are reasonable for the quality, and it’s clear this isn’t just another pizza joint — it’s a labor of love. Highly recommended for both locals and...
Read moreThis was the worst dining experience I've ever had.
We waited 15 minutes to have our orders taken.
The wine was noticeably watered down; the food was tepid when it was delivered, and the pesto gnocci barely had any cheese, and the focaccia was a severely burnt plain pizza crust.
The worst part of this restaurant was the service: Ten minutes after my friend's food arrived, we asked a waitress when the other dish would arrive, to which she replied it was nearly ready. Twenty minutes later, the dish still hadn't arrived. After waiting for 25 more minutes, we flagged down our original waitress to ask about the missing dish.
She was incredibly rude, immediately asking whether we wanted the food or not and telling us how she should phrase the sentence "Your food is on its way" so that we would understand it.
She was extremely hostile and rude, with a cutting tone and impolite hand gestures.
In the end, the manager gave us a 30% discount, but still charged us for the missing dish.
This is my first time leaving a negative review at a restaurant, it was a very...
