I went to La Monroe last night to celebrate a close friend’s birthday, hoping for a fun evening. Unfortunately, the service I received left me stunned and deeply disappointed.
From the very beginning, the waiter was condescending and dismissive. When I simply asked for a mint tea and lemonade, he acted as if I hadn’t spoken clearly by handing me a menu of tea options in a way that felt patronizing rather than helpful.
Over the next three hours, while friends slowly arrived, the same waiter made it a point to ignore me entirely. Every time I attempted to place an order, he would interrupt my conversation, brush me off, and then immediately turn to someone else at the table. The hostility was so blatant that I eventually had another guest place my dinner order just to avoid another uncomfortable encounter.
To make matters worse, the waiter never even put my order in, despite assuring us it was “on the way.” Being excluded, disregarded, and treated as if my presence was a burden completely ruined what should have been a joyous occasion.
The patronizing attitude, poor communication, and failure to deliver even the basics made this one of the most unwelcoming dining experiences I have ever had.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate with friends, consider any other pub or hole in the wall before subjecting yourself to being treated this way. La Monroe needs a serious wake-up call in how they train their staff to treat customers with respect and decency.
UPDATE: The reply I received here unfortunately reflects the same dismissive attitude I experienced in person. To be clear, I was offered bites of others’ appetizers while never receiving my own entrée, all while sitting through a birthday party where a group of 15 around me was served for 3+ hours without issue.
For the staff to claim there was only “one mistake with one dish” is simply not accurate. The reality was that I was repeatedly ignored, interrupted mid-conversation, and left without a meal and mocked. Instead of accountability, the response shifts blame back onto me as though I was the problem.
This confirms my initial impression: La Monroe does not value every guest equally and chooses deflection over...
Read moreThe service is very, I said VERY poor. I went there couple of times since I don't live far. The food is good but the services is as as bad as disrespectful. In general the staff is not the type that will visit your table from time to time to check if you need anything else and they will even look way when you call thrn but I have to mention one waitress in particular who deserves the special badge of THE WORST WAITRESS IN BARCELONA maybe? He is a older guy, a bit bald and with greenish, blueshi eyes. Yesterday he went over the top. I called him for a beer, he said in the worst manner posible - can't you wait? I said I will be there with you. 10 minutes later he did not came and I called him again, he answered "I already told you, call my coworker not me", her coworker just saw the situation and in a very kind way, almost apologizing she said "a beer here right?" And I was like, yes please 🥺 after 20 minutes waiting and sicking for attention. Guess what? She forgot the beer, so after 10 minutes (already 30 minutes waiting for a beer) I just left. The guy looked me in the eye and did not say a word when I guess an apology would do. Very unprofessional, I always feel that somebody is doing me a favor there. The owner must be far, far way from the restaurant. I really hope you get involved on your bussiness and find people who are passionate about what they do. Costumers deserve to...
Read moreOh honey.
From the get this place displeased. I sat down and the waiter quickly asked if I wanted still water, yes? I obligingly agreed only realising moments later that meant I’d ordered a bottle of water rather than tap water. Next I asked the same waiter for his advice on the difference between two starters, he said one was like patatas bravas, a cubed fried potato dish. Lovely I thought. Minutes later he plonked down a literal bag of crisps in a silver bowl. A bag of crisps. For 2.40. Which most bars here would give you for free with a drink. Oh and I also ordered a margarita which tasted like paint thinner. Fabulous. By the time my main arrived I was just hoping that it was going to be served hot (which, to be fair, it was). A thoroughly awful experience. Like a busy night at Wahaca on the southbank crossed with a visit to a tube station Tortilla at lunchtime on Tuesday. Avoid. Also the chairs are insanely...
