Disclaimer, we're from San Francisco where Chinese food is typically pretty good so we know what good Chinese food tastes like.
In summary, frozen dumplings, barely edible, pretty good service. Wouldn't come again. Read on for details.
We found this place on Google maps and decided to come here since there were so many 5 star reviews. We got there around 3pm and it was pretty slow inside. We ordered their standard xiu long bao (XLB), the xlb with truffle, and shrimp dumplings. They were all mediocre at best. There was a lady making the dumplings by hand up front so we were thinking they were going to serve fresh dumplings but unfortunately all the dumplings we got were previously frozen. We should've been aware when we asked about the size of each dumpling when the cashier opened up the fridge and showed us a frozen dumpling. The pork inside the XLB dumplings tasted like it was old and about to go bad. The shrimp inside the shrimp dumplings also tasted old and bad quality. You can taste the poop from it not being deveined. You can see from my photos that the skin of the top of the dumplings were white from freezer burn. The skin from the truffle XLB was good (this one may have been made fresh) but the inside was kind of mushy and overall did not taste good either. We ordered 6, my wife ate 1 and I managed to eat 2 before throwing in the towel.
I'm not sure how it's possible for so many 5 star reviews unless people have never had dumplings before or they had fresh dumplings which is not what we got. Quite a shame if the ladder is the case since it was slow and they could've just given us fresh dumplings. We came here on empty stomachs, ordered 30 dumplings, and only managed to eat a little more than half before giving up and leaving the rest on the table. It felt pretty wasteful and we usually try to finish our food but it really wasn't worth it.
The service itself was pretty good. The cashier had a smile on her face and the gentleman that brought our food was also nice. Unfortunately, we will not...
Read moreWorst treatment I've got without even sitting down.
My partner and I came in the afternoon, 4 pm, thinking Lady Dumpling was open for a late lunch. When arriving staff told me they were closed and to come back later in the evening. I asked if I needed to make a reservation and they told me it wasn't necessary. Later that evening I came in at around 9PM and was send away. They didn't accept any more tables inside but i could still order take away, mind you a full part of their restaurant was having empty seats. The guy who send me away in the afternoon was also the guy that I spoke in the evening. Telling me that he had too many orders, which i'm sorry i wasn't impressed by the amount he showed me working as management in the restaurant business for quite some time. I can't get my head around this, the treatment if got and reaction of this guy is not how the hospitality industry works. Sad that I couldn't try the dumplings but my happily spent my...
Read moreO.M.G I have had SO.MANY. dumplings in my life, but truly, I can't name a single one that lives up to the dumplings served here at Lady Dumpling. I have passed by this shop a few times since my stay here in Barcelona, and watched as the woman in the front window prepares these beautiful pockets of heaven. Not only are the dumplings fantastic, but so is everything else on the menu. My husband and I shared the steamed veggies dumplings, the grilled beef and coriander dumplings, the chili curry chicken dumplings, the cucumber salad, 2 orders of spring rolls, and (by mistake/accidently on the house) an order of kaarage. I had to take a break in the middle of eating to write this review because I didn't want to forget all the marvelous things I had to say about this wonderful shop. Sure, you can have your fill of tapas here in Spain, but DO NOT SLEEP on Lady Dumpling. You will...
