I love Indian food. Well, actually I don’t really know because at Indian restaurants, I always order the same: biryani. 🤪 OK, I exaggerate, I know that I like the rest too. But what I like the most is biryani. In my bucket list of Indian restaurants in Barcelona, there was Out of India which happens to be located close to a friend’s place. So, a few weeks ago, we booked there to have lunch with him and his family. We arrived late but the staff was nice, never complained and accommodated us where we wanted. They were patient and let us decide at our pace. We only had 1 course per person and, of course, mine was a biryani. And I added a naan, as always. The biryani arrived with a naan on the top. I thought that was it but no, a couple of minutes later, they brought another naan… 🤷 I don’t need to eat 2 naans, and I don’t want to throw 1 away either… I don’t understand why the waiter didn’t tell me anything when I ordered both items. This is not nice. 😤 At least the naans were good (and I ended up eating both… 😓) but the biryani was not as I expected. It was very juicy, which is unusual yet not an issue, but its taste was so-so. I can’t say that I enjoyed it. 😔 Then came the bill: €22 for 1 course only, no drink, no dessert, at an Indian restaurant, is way too much. I don’t think I had ever paid more than €15 even for a full meal. I won’t repeat. ⛔

Quality & taste: 5/10 Quantities: 9/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 3/10 Service: 6/10 How I felt afterwards: 4/10

Update: i got this answer from Out of India: “First of all, what’s on top of the biryani is not a naan. Its a type of half-cooked bread used to preserve the aroma and steam of the rice (by creating a closed system). It always comes with the dish to enhance the visual appeal too. The naan is a completely different food article from the card/menu. Regarding the price, in my Google profile clearly states that it’s within a range of 20-30€. I’ve never claimed that my restaurant or dishes are cheap, and I’m not looking into offering cheap quality items. My restaurant is highly regarded as a high quality one (good service, good food), hence said prices. Moreover, after taking a glance at your profile, it seems like you regard at Barcelona as a cheap city. However, that’s not the case, specially lately (significant price rise in the market). Next time you have a doubt (like the naan one), it would take you less time to ask the waiter than to write a whole paragraph about it.”

Since I cannot answer this comment, I amend this review:

Good to know that was not a naan. It tasted the same as a naan though, although it was drier. That doesn’t change the fact that a naan together with that bread is redundant and I could have been told that by the staff. That said, I must say that it makes sense to prepare the biryani this way as it preserves the moist, and I’m not discussing that. Whether the price matches the price range on the google profile or not is irreevant. I’ve never said that I was charged a price I was not aware of upfront. I simply said that that price is not justified and doesn’t match the quality the restaurant offers. Neither does it match the standard for Indian restaurants in Barcelona. Finally, I’ve been living in Barcelona for 18 years and I’m aware that Barcelona is not a cheap city anymore, unfortunately. That doesn’t change the fact that the prices at this venue are not aligned with the quality of what they offer. That biryani was the least good I’ve eaten in Barcelona by far. I had no doubt hence nothing to comment upfront. What should have happened is that the waiter should have told me not to...

My brother and my parents came to eat here during our 2nd day vacationing at Spain, and the food was so great that we went back a second time a few days later. The first day we went we were served by a very kind and smart waitress by the name of Ichchha. We told her were were from Guyana but have roots in India, and we love Indian food. She was also the ONLY waitress during our first few days in Spain that was able to speak perfect fluent English to us, and I believe she speaks 2 other languages including Spanish so that is a great plus! She was very kind and welcoming and had fun conversations with us, I really appreciate her providing some laughs and smiles to us! she has given us the best service out of all the restaurants we've eaten at, so thank you!

In terms of the service, it was extremely fast. We got seated within 5 minutes, ordered within the next 10 minutes, and in less than 10 minutes AFTER the order was placed, we were served with our food. This was hands down the FASTEST service at a restaurant I've ever experienced! And in terms of the food itself, absolutely delicious. THE BEST Indian food we've ever tasted. Please turn this restaurant into a franchise and come to NY please!

Anyways, long story short, food is exceptional, so major compliments to the chefs. and again, Ichccha was AMAZING. she is the golden standard for what service waitresses should be. by the end of our stay, she didn't feel like a waitress, she felt like a friend! it was nice to meet you and was a great pleasure. definitely a highlight of our trip! maybe next time we'll learn some Hindi to speak with Ichccha by then lol, thank you again!

ps, your NY...

We loved the food. But ……. Very Pricy and it’s not worth it. We wanted to have Indian food and found this restaurant when I searched in Google.

We ordered starters, the main course, and drinks. The starter cost was 10.95 Euros, main course Lamb curry cost 17.50 Euros. My gosh. …I was surprised to see that the starter comes with only 3 pieces. Really??? and the quantity of the curry was very low for that price. The curry was served in the soup plate which holds less quantity. I have never seen curry served like that. We live in London. There are many Indian Restaurants, and we know the price and quantity they serve. Starters usually get 6 pcs and a good amount of curry. This was a total rip-off for us. I ordered Pina Colada. Half of the glass was filled with small Ice cubes, and we paid 9.75 Euros. The guy [slim guy) who served was a bit rushed (coz the kitchen is closing at 4 p.m fair enough). Restaurant did not have many customers. He was arrogant and full of attitude. We ordered lassi for kids and I requested him to provide us with an additional glass. As he did not provide for us, I reminded him again. He was so annoyed, and he gave me a water glass. When I refused and requested lassi glass, he came up to our table to provide 2 glasses with his annoyed face. instead of providing us one glass NOT at all professional, NOT acceptable. The total bill was 80 Euros. NOT WORTH IT

I have no clue how this restaurant got many positive ratings. It’s a total rip off of an Indian Restaurant. Price wise...

We walked in here on Sunday after a 7 night cruise. We just wanted a meal and have peace and quiet ,service not rushed and this is what we got.. Infact all of the servers were fantastic... The Ambience was just lovely and they were friendly and explained the menu ( need to this on your Phone ) The drinks were served quickly and so so good. We went for Chicken Tikka, Prawn in akhmali and onion Bharji for starters- So good and so so full of flavor. I was sitting infront of the open kitchen- I will say what a lovely sight to see a happy kitchen enjoy what they love doing and i loved that.. Nick askded regarding mains and we asked if we could have a glass of wine first - So no rushing at all which we needed afyer a busy week.. Then the mains came - Breads were crispy for the garlic and full of Garlic butter.. My Peshwari nan was fresh coconut and light and fully- The pilau rice was fuffly and rich of taste. My Prawns again came on a bed of fresh peppers and fruit - Yummy and the Chicken Madras was full of Tomaoe in a rich sauce .. The wine we were offered was also just Great and as i said before the Service from Nick was attenive but also the ladys were on the ball.. Thank you again for a great meal a must if your in Barcelona

AVOID THIS PLACE !!! if you want a nutritious meal with complex flavors. Try restaurants like Bembi or Haldi instead. Save your money and skip Out of India – it's a lousy, overpriced meal not worth your time or money. You will be paying for only fats and sugar. As an Indian, I was excited to try Out of India with my Spanish girlfriend. Unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, we were met with a repulsive look from a waiter, presumably named Nick. While he was flirty with my girlfriend, and the table behind us. he was extremely rude to me without any reason. (I didn’t even know someone can be racist to their own people, a new one for me) The food was a huge disappointment. Any self-respecting Indian will not enjoy the overly fatty and sugary dishes served here. The Paneer Chilly was particularly bad, with a base that tasted like pure sugar. We even had to comment to the chef about it, but it didn't seem to make a difference. The prices are exorbitant for the portion sizes offered. It feels like the restaurant is targeting tourists traveling from the nearby Sants station. Essentially, you're paying for the decor, not the food quality.
