If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The service was terrible - staff were very unfriendly and standoffish and the paella was cold, bland, unsalted and the rice had not been cooked through properly (it had a hard crunch). The table had not been completely set before we sat down. We had to ask three different waiters to bring us a bottle of water over the course of an hour before one arrived. We had tried to order a Coca Cola also on two of those requests but decided to leave it out of our third request in case that would simplify things enough to finally receive a single 500ml bottle of water to drink while we ate. The food was served without any care, simply slammed onto the end of the table and the waiter just left as soon as they put it down. We had to drag a hot pan of paella towards us without a towel to be able to serve ourselves. I’ve also never eaten lobster that was so bland and tasteless. We noticed the tables either side of us were receiving fantastic service, with waiters regularly checking in on them while we were completely ignored. We made eye contact with several waiters trying to call people over but were ignored at every stage. Staff spoke to us like we weren’t worth the air it took them to greet us. We suspect a lot of this treatment was racism, as we were the only non-white customers in the restaurant. Our table didn’t even have any salt that we could add to our food to make it edible and flagging down a waiter who would stand there long enough to listen to us was impossible. They kept walking off before we could finish our sentence. We also only had one water glass on the table and weren’t able to catch anyone’s attention to get another. The bread at the beginning was not complimentary and nobody told us this when we were offered it. And to top it off they miscalculated our bill and tried to charge us extra for water we didn’t receive. I wouldn’t even recommend this place for the view, the terrace was cramped and they seat customers in such a way that there’s no room to walk comfortably. Staff do not move out of your way when you are trying to go to and from your table to the lavatory/smoking area. I tried to have some empathy for their situation but this is October - long after the high season and it was not so busy inside that they couldn’t manage the no of customers having dinner. I could see from my eyeline that glasses were available but they had no care or thought about our table. At the end of the service they tried to charge us for 2 bottles of water , and after pointing it out there was no sorry or apologies for their mistake. They also were not very attentive towards us . We made eye contact with the staff multiple to try and flag them down , but was ignored at very turn. The tables around us were seeming to get great service , and so this avoidance and distance left a particularly bad taste for us. if they did notice us , they would quickly walk away before hearing the full order.It was not busy enough to warrant that sort of response from our waiters. When trying to make way towards the smoking area or coming in/out , the staff would not make way for us to move around and often was not aware of their surroundings. The food itself if nothing to write home about. I had the soup and monkfish skewers and it’s was a complete waste of money. The soup was okay at best however the real disappointment was the monkfish skewers. The whole dish was bland and was served cold. There was no love or passion for food put into the dish. It was plated up as if it was a school/work canteen dinner.
The environment itself was so uncomfortable. We arrived early in the evening, there were three other tables. My entire time in Benalmadena I have been blown away by everyone’s friendliness. The staff here were the anthesis of that. We felt like an in inconvenience to them the entire time. We were served by 5 different members of staff and not once did we get a smile or a thank you. When we thanked them for taking our order we just received radio silence, one member of staff actually just scoffed at us in response.
It was my fault for not taking a closer look at the reviews for this establishment before going in. I was so dumbfounded by the entire experience I had take a look at people were actually saying, then saw that multiple others customer have experienced this exact same treatment.
I also have noticed the restaurant replying “apologising” and saying “they will use this feedback to improve” It’s been weeks and months, so please don’t waste your time typing a response to me. Actions speak louder than words.
