TORO Puerto Marina — Restaurant in Benalmádena

To be fair we as a foursome decided on recommendation to reserve a table to celebrate a birthday while on holiday and were so looking forward to the experience of dining with Toro. First impressions were spectacular lovely staff only too eager to please helped us choose the desired wine a lovely starter with alioli,bread and olives( getting really excited now by the way!) Our main course arrived and looked fantastic! Oh my god this was unfortunately the worst meal I have EVER had to endure the steak was absolutely inedible due to the amount of tendon and unrendered fat on the cut of meat we ordered even the fillet steak my partner had ordered hadn't been trimmed correctly and was really unacceptable. We ordered potatoes in jacket and baby potato form which were grossly undercooked and to be fair rock hard and had to be sent back as they were totally inedible. On the return of the potatoes they were exactly the same as was before thr waiter could not believe it that they had got it wrong again! We all had a large amount of food left on our plates and when the waiters came to collect them and asked if everything had been ok we had to say no but sorry it wasnt and showed the state of the meat the answer was I'll let the chef know as this cannot happen again. We should have requested a reduced bill or been offered a reduced bill but they said would you like a free shot to make up for it!!!!!...

We visited TORO Puerto Marina in Benalmádena on Sunday 31st August for a late lunch, on the last day of our holiday, and had a really lovely experience. I was quite surprised to see some of the negative reviews, as our visit was the complete opposite.

The food was excellent – the steak in particular was amazing, cooked exactly how we like it. The flavour on the outside was spot on, just as it should be, and honestly I wish it could be this good back home in the UK. The wine was very good too and paired perfectly with the meal.

The service from two young ladies, including Adriana, was outstanding. Both were friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome. I also had a chance to speak with the lady boss, who was extremely kind and pleasant. I would especially like to thank her for the items she gave us, which was such a thoughtful gesture and created a lovely memory of our holiday and final meal at the restaurant.

The food quite easily deserves 5 stars but the offer of 42€ for a 5 course tasting menu paired with wine for 4 of our party of 13 was too good to be true and pushed the resources of the busy waiters. The other members of the oarty were nearly finished their food by the time our second starter arrived and they missed the third one altogether until we reminded them and they served the Iberico ham and cheese before the dessert. Unfortunately they had also run out of bread to serve with the prawn pil pil so we missed out on soaking up the very flavoursome garlic infused oil. All was forgiven with apologies from the staff who were doing their best on a busy evening at the Marina. The steaks ,oxtail stew and salmon mains were all perfectly seasoned ,plated up beautifully and tasted amazing. The croquettes were well made and creamy with a delicate crust.
