We travelled a long way to this bar because there were veggie pies on the menu which we really wanted to try (we even asked beforehand if there was anything not available from the menu to avoid being let down, only gammon was mentioned), so we were hugely disappointed to find out minutes later that they didn't have any. Even so, it had taken a long time to get there and we were hungry so we plumped for veggie burgers instead. They were not veggie burgers, they were vegetable burgers (the type usually served to kids) which is very different and another disappointment. People serving veggie food should learn the difference between veggie burgers(fake meat), bean burgers and vegetable burgers as all of them are very different. It was such a shame because we were all looking forward to a great meal. The staff have replied to my comments saying that I should have booked, but I don't see how that would have changed the selection of food. And I apparently should have called the establishment ahead, which again would have made no difference either as they would have still given the same response to questions as when we were ordering food. They also told me that they did have vegetarian pastries available, but this was not offered at the time, when we said very clearly that we were looking forward to a pie. Saying that I did not ask what the veggie burger was is just nonsense. If it was given the proper name there should be no need to ask! I have explained the differences above for education purposes. Finally to call me silly after asking "is there anything not available on the menu" but not specifying the veggie menu reveals the real standards in your establishment. Your menu is surely all your food, or are we vegetarians not to be associated with the rest of society? To sum up, food was not what we came for or what we had ordered. Staff were fine at the time but after my genuine comments they were not so nice. No score for atmosphere as we were the only ones there. Minus points for the nonsense comments and unnecessary rudeness. My review is accurate and honest, you have done yourself no favours, and that...
Read moreWe booked as a couple but found out four friends had also decided to visit on the same night and we asked if we could make a table of six. This was done without hesitation and this attitude to service would continue throughout the night. We were asked earlier in the day to pre order our choice of paella to allow the ingredients to be prepared freshly so on arrival the first thing to decide was it to be a bottle of wine or jug of sangria per couple. Stephen also explained how relaxed the evening would be and what the starter and main dishes would consist of. The tapas starter arrived and was a trio of different salads on a lettuce leaf with cheeses and meats. It was absolutely top class. The paella were now ready and were served per couple. My wife and I had the chicken and vegetable. Other choices included paella valenciana, jambalaya and vegetarian. Having sampled a little of the other two I can confirm they were all delicious. Now here's where there was some deliberation between our party. We all agreed that the taste was exceptional but we were split in that some thought it was a little dry, I thought it was just right to be honest. A matter of preference. There was a choice of ice cream or coffee to round the night off all for the sum of €15, an absolute bargain. Stephen and Al the owners (front of house and chef) spent time chatting and are a great couple. We even met Al's mum who was sat at the next table, a character and lovely woman. I would definitely recommend the Sunday paella evening and will certainly...
Read moreSo, we have been here several times over 20 years under various ownership. It is primarily a British cafe, always has been, but now it is definitely a Brit's ripping off Brit's establishment. We had 2 sandwiches, 1 egg mayo, 1 prawn mayo, the cheap sliced bread was either stale or defrosted as it just fell apart. We ordered a side of chips, they were pre cooked chips reheated. I had a small beer, my husband had a coffee and guess what, it cost us €21. The day before we had a 4 course menu del dia with a bottle of wine at Vistabella for €26. Today we had another 4 course menu del dia with a bottle of wine in Fortmentura for €24. How can the owners of Oasis justify their prices? My advice to any Brit using this place is, broaden your horizons, there are so many Spanish restaurants serving quality food at fantastic prices, don't...
