GOIKO — Restaurant in Bilbao

When I first came here 5 years ago, I could easily say that this was the best burger I have ever had. Coming from New York, I'm used to the whole spectrum of burgers, since establishments have to compete for your attention, palette and wallet. So, having had great burgers (not talking about anything in the same vein as McDonalds, Wendy's or Burger king... ) throughout New York I arrogantly thought to myself that I knew a good burger. Basically, don't try to teach a priest how to pray. Boy was I wrong 5 years ago. SINCE THEN however, the name as a whole has gone downhill. Depending on the day you go you will always get good to great service (at both locations in Bilbao) but you many not always get the same quality. The potato rations will either be 100 kilos or a couple pieces. They have recently switched to having little metal baskets, perhaps in an attempt to curb over/under serving. The burger can come with American cheese (the worst cheese ever) that is put on at the last minute, not having had enough time to melt, might not be cooked how you ordered OR so over cooked that its dryer than the brittle leaves of autumn (La Kiki). Don't get me started on delivery. While the potatoes being cold might not be their fault as the bike messenger can take long, they do have control over completely undercooking the burger. Ive had to, on two occasions, cook the burger AGAIN! Lastly, the prices have increased. They do send coupons to off set our costs, so you have to make sure you sign up with them., but otherwise NOT worth the full price. Alas, my wife and I still go every 2-3 months or so with the lit-candle-in-the-hurricane hope that they can go back to their once top held prestige...

This was quite possibly the worst meal I've had anywhere. We were a party of 7 and unanimously agreed that this place was terrible. The fact that the restaurant was empty during lunch time should have been a clue, but we had eaten at Goiko in Madrid and Barcelona on previous trips and had positive experiences there. This time, it was quite the opposite. The service was quite good, no issues there. The young lady from Venezuela was friendly, attentive, and overall excellent. The food on the other hand was terrible. The burgers were like mystery meat. The color and text were off, like this was not beef. To top it off, one of the burgers tasted of seafood. How is that when there is no seafood on the menu? Well, one of the workers or worker's friend cooked his seafood lunch on the same grill. He was the only other person eating at the restaurant, sitting by the kitchen and chatting with the cooks. Finally, the restaurant was experiencing a backed up sewer smell that eventually took over the restaurant. By the time we finished eating what we were going to eat, the smell was disgustingly strong. I wish I could rate this experience lower than 1 star. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. There are so many other better choices in Bilbao. Sorry Goiko, we really used to like your restaurant. We won't be returning in any city.

Esta fue posiblemente la peor comida que he probado en mi vida. Éramos un grupo de 7 y coincidimos en que este lugar era terrible. El hecho de que el restaurante estuviera vacío a la hora del almuerzo debería haber sido una pista, pero ya habíamos comido en Goiko en Madrid y Barcelona en viajes anteriores y habíamos tenido experiencias positivas. Esta vez, fue todo lo contrario. El servicio fue bastante bueno, sin ningún problema. La joven venezolana fue amable, atenta y, en general, excelente. La comida, en cambio, era terrible. Las hamburguesas eran como carne misteriosa. El color y el texto estaban apagados, como si no fuera carne de res. Para colmo, una de las hamburguesas sabía a marisco. ¿Cómo es posible si no hay marisco en el menú? Bueno, uno de los trabajadores o su amigo preparó su almuerzo de marisco en la misma parrilla. Era la única persona que comía, sentado junto a la cocina y charlando con los cocineros. Finalmente, el restaurante empezó a oler a cloaca atascada que se apoderó de todo. Para cuando terminamos de comer lo que íbamos a comer, el olor era asquerosamente fuerte. Ojalá pudiera calificar esta experiencia con menos de una estrella. Hazte un favor y evita este lugar. Hay muchas otras opciones mejores en Bilbao. Lo siento, Goiko, antes nos gustaba mucho tu restaurante. No volveremos a...

En líneas generales está bien. De entrantes pedimos unos aros de cebolla que estaban muy buenos, también pedimos unos chicken tenders y unos tequeños rellenos que estaban extraordinarios. El pollo bueno, sin más. Luego las hamburguesas... Pedimos 5, cada uno pidió una diferente. Pedimos la Amatxu, que no estaba muy allá. De hecho era la que peor estaba de las que pedimos, que no estaba mala, pero tampoco estaba rica. Luego una Kiki, que es de pollo. Esa estaba muy buena, es la que más recomiendo. También pedimos 2 Kevin Costner y una Yankee. Estaban ricas pero de tamaño son justitas para el precio que tienen. Las hamburguesas bueno, esperábamos quizá un poco más porque no son precisamente baratas. De postre pedimos frozen y galletas con helado. Los Frozen no estaban nada ricos. Es como difícil entender lo que estás comiendo porque saben a todo y a la vez a nada. y es la razón por las que le doy 3 estrellas. La galleta con helado ha sido una decepción, de hecho se ha quedado entera en la mesa. En cuánto al servicio bueno, un poco regular. La chica que nos atendió no se movía por la mesa, ella se quedaba en una esquina y nos pasaba desde allí todos los platos cosa que me da un poco igual. El problema es que recogía la mesa igual. Se quedaba de un lado de la mesa y le teníamos que pasar todos los platos. La mesa estaba pegada en la pared pero el acceso no era como para no poder recoger ella los platos. No me importa ayudar en algún momento si ella no llega a coger un plato, pero eso pasó cada vez que la chica venía a recoger platos. Y no dijo gracias en ningún momento tampoco. El servicio se ha quedado justo justo. Veías a la chica pasando la fregona en pleno servicio, no ha sido muy agradable comer con olor a friegasuelos y no, no hemos llegado tarde. Llegamos a las 8:30 y ellos cerraban a las 12. Tampoco estaba limpiando nada en particular. Simplemente estaba pasando la fregona en todo el suelo del restaurante. El pleno servicio y sin estar ni cerca de la hora del cierre. En resumen, las hamburguesas bastante bien. Están buenas. De postres no recomiendo ninguno, pedimos varios y todos estaban muy malos. Los entrantes están todos ricos y las patatas sin duda lo mejor que tienen. Tanto las normales como las que tienen cosas por encima. Para mi la experiencia fue un poco decepcionante. Sinceramente no volvería. Por 5 hamburguesas, dos jarras de te, 3 entrantes y 5 postres hemos pagado 180€. Unos 35€...
