Good Food, Bland Service
The place had some decent reviews about the food, so we thought, let's try?
The dishes were alright. Our family of four had the menu of the day – pasta fiocchi, vegetable lasagna, salad to start, then entrecote, baked sea bass, braised Iberian rib, and tuna tataki for the mains, at 31 Eu each, it's pretty fair. The problem wasn't with what was on the plates; it was more about how we felt while eating it.
We didn't feel welcome, plain and simple. It was as if the waiter didn't really want us there. No help with the menu or suggestions, just sort of a 'figure it out yourself' attitude. It's hard to enjoy your meal when you feel like you're getting the cold shoulder, you know?
I get that we're new to the place, first visit, and all, but a bit of friendliness goes a long way, especially when you're trying to figure out a menu in a different language. It was more like we got a 'go away' vibe, which isn't what you want when you're spending good money for a family brunch out.
The real kicker was with the dessert, a big slice of brownie cake we wanted to take away because we barely touched it. The waiter looked as if we'd asked him to run a marathon. As his yes was as sour as a lemon, I asked him if this is okay with him. Ended up giving the cake to a homeless guy outside, which sort of made the day, thinking about it.
Maybe its just a holiday, maybe the waiter is just having a bad day.
So, if you're not from Spain or not too sharp with your Spanish, maybe think twice about Suasan. The food's okay, but if feeling welcome and at ease is part of what you're looking for in a dining experience, you might want to walk to another place. It’s a shame, really, but that’s how it...
Read moreVisited in a Saturday afternoon, was hoping to try the brunch menu after reading some positive things online. We arrived at 13.02 to find the brunch menu stopped at 13.00, disappointed we asked for the lunch menu only to be told they did not start serving lunch for another 20minutes and we could only have cakes. Since I really wanted to try the place we waited. A few minutes later we were told we could not sit where we originally sat down, there was two of us and we had taken a table for three. A bit miffed we moved seats to a smaller table. The restaurant was quiet so we couldn’t understand why we had been asked to move, particularly when there was another couple at a table for 4.
At 13.20 the waiter came to take our food order, he was pleasant enough (the rude waiter that asked us to move stayed behind the bar)
Food was tasty, decent size portions. A bit expensive in comparison to other places in Bilbao.
Wouldn’t return as the service really let the place down, my fiancé didn’t even want to stay for food as the first waiter had been so rude.
It’s a shame as this could be a really great place if they improved the service. The waiters don’t look as though they want to be here and who can blame them, a 20minute wait to change menus?! Never heard of that anywhere before. It’s as though they are too good and don’t need your money.
I think they forget why they started the place...presumably...

We stopped in here at 1302 - 2 minutes late for the brunch menu. We were told that the afternoon menu wouldn’t start for another 20mins and as such we would have to wait if we wanted food. I’ve never been at a deli or cafe where they didn’t switch straight from one menu to another but we decided we’d just wait. The waiter looked annoyed that we decided to wait with a soft drink (maybe he wanted us to leave). The place wasn’t very busy at the time.
We (myself and my fiancée) took a seat at a table laid out for three people, so we could sit by the window. The waiter told us to move to a two seat table (again, the place was really quiet to it seemed unnecessary).
Shortly after we moved, another couple came in and sat at the three seat table. The waiter just split their table into two two-seat tables. I’m not sure why he couldn’t do that for us. He done the same again for another couple who sat at a four-seater.
For the rest of the visit he just seemed really rude, like we were an inconvenience.
The food itself was really nice. I had the New Yorker (pastrami) bagel. A little elaborate (a knife and fork affair rather than something you’d eat with your hands) but very tasty.
It’s a shame the service really spoiled our visit. And the gap in service at menu switchover. At 1pm. At a...
