Taberna Mazuela — Restaurant in Bilbao

Delicious food, a pleasant lady who helped us first. The menu was also in English and French, so we thought we could just enjoy a nice meal here with our limited Spanish vocabulary, as that's quite a challenge in the Basque Country. Fortunately, she spoke reasonable English, so we got by quite well. However, after our first order, we were "helped" by a young man. When he heard we didn't speak Spanish, he made disapproving gestures of disgust. With a lot of theatrics, sighs, and groans, he took our order. No wordly exchanges further. I've honestly never felt so poorly served, even though we were genuinely just a normal family out for dinner. Even though it wasn't busy at all, everything took a very long time. Of course, we reported everything to the friendly lady, but she couldn't do anything about it either. Considering the price and service, I'd skip this place. Suggestion for the owner: put a sign somewhere saying "no tourists welcome." That would be fine, and then everyone would be happy. After all a lot of other places where they have better...

We used to visit regularly. However recently treated unfairly. We asked for a wine, the waitresses served us the most expensive glass without telling us the price. Afterwards when the bill came they charged us even more money than what was on the bottle, saying the bottle label was wrong. When challenged she and her colleague suggested it was our mistake. Even though the place was rated low, we gave it a try and it was worth it. Usually always go for 4.5 and above, but the interior and the outside tables had a great atmosphere. Food was delicious.
