We discovered this place in Google Reviews to be honest. We were in Plaza de la Corredera and we didn't like any of the options in the square. They seemed very expensive for the looks of the food they offered. So we decided to try LaBoca which was less than 5 minutes walking from the square.
The menu was short but varied and with elaborated dishes with not-so-common ingredients. At least nor for me. We had Croquetas, Fabes with Cochayuyo (I believe it was called), Squid False Risotto and Couscous. The food was delicious. A bit pricey compared to other places, but certainly it's worth it since you're getting and elaborate dish with surprising ingredients. The waiters were very very kind. We came with a child and they were very understanding. My kid usually behaves but it's still a kid and went exploring in the restaurant and both waiters were very kind to her. One of them even wore a clown nose to make her laugh and gave her one at the end of the dinner. Awesome service. Also, it is the end of September and the weather is not so hot anymore. They had the fans (not AC) in full force and it was still a bit chilly for me to have constant air blowing on my neck. Surprisingly, they had separate switches for the fans and they turned off the one on top of us while the rest of people dinning still had theirs on (maybe they were hot?). It may sound like a simple thing, but I think this kind of details separate a normal restaurant from a awesome one. I was able to enjoy my dinner without the worry I was going to have neck pain because of the air. Thanks La Boca. Also, no loud music playing non-stop. When I go for dinner I expect to be able to talk to the people in my table. It's supposed to be a social event. So kudos to them for not having annoying music in the background. When I said they were understanding of us having a child I forgot to mention that they offered to prepare simpler food for her. And they did. We ordered chicken karage which was extremely tender. My kid also tried our dishes and liked them and that's probably why she did not finish her karage. Excellent experience. I would totally...
Read moreDespite having booked, we walked in to an empty restaurant and the waiter seemed confused as to where to place us within said empty restaurant. They had clearly not noted our booking. We then got chucked 2 menus for 6 people. We had no plates, cutlery, glasses. We finally received 3 drinks for the 6 of us, and had to chase the rest. We had to ask for 2 extra wine glasses 3 times, we received 2 glasses of white wine, without having ordered any white wine. The waiter was mean, patronising and dismissive. The other was confused, despite us speaking to him in Spanish. My dad ordered soup, which he had to eat with a fork. A final waiter arrived and he was great, but it was too little too late. The food itself, once we finally received it, was nice but definitely not worth the trauma. Finally, when I asked for the bill, I told the last waiter what a bad experience we had had, he said that made him sad and all he could do was apologise, and then he literally put on a red clown nose, I assume to distract us from the fact he had not offered us a discount for the disaster that was our meal…I have been going to this restaurant for 10 years and it is now a shambles, do not recommend. P.s. no toilet paper...
Read moreWe had dinner with a larger, vegan-vegetarian group at "La Boca". For a larger group, it is definitely advisable to make a reservation in advance. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very pleasant and the interior design is particularly tasteful. The waiter was very friendly and able to explain the menu and the vegan and vegetarian options to us in both English and Spanish. We appreciated that he took the time to do this, even though he was alone and therefore very busy. The food was delicious and there were at least four vegan dishes to choose from, including noodles and a burger. There was also a vegan dessert with oat-based vanilla ice cream and apple-filled dumplings that is highly recommendable. A few little things could be improved to make this a five-star experience: Some of the portions were too small for us and we would have liked sauce with the fries. Also, it would be desirable to be able to access the menu without having to give out your phone number to have it sent to you on WhatsApp - either using a QR code or a printed menu. All in all, we enjoyed the evening very much and will certainly...
