this Italian is best avoided until they make some major changes. we ordered a tomato & mozzarella salad to start. it came completely smothered in pesto. Our daughter has a nut allergy so we were not happy that it was not mentioned on the menu and we didn’t know if this particular pesto contained nuts. they changed it with a little fuss but admitted pesto was not mentioned on the menu. we then ordered 2 pasta dishes and 1 tuna pizza. the pizza was fine and I enjoyed it. my daughter ordered the pasta with prawns and garlic and it was pretty tasteless, the prawns were okay but the pasta itself was over cooked. it was one of the poorest pasta dishes she has ever had. My husband had the lobster pasta which he was very disappointed with. It contained large pieces of shell with tiny bits of lobster on top of the pasta. It was inedible and not pleasant to eat. It was lazy cooking by the chef and very disappointing. The service was terrible, our waitress told us it was her first evening and started off fine. she then after our mains were served decided to gather with her colleagues and have a long chat by the bar talking about alcohol. This meant that we were left with dirty plates for 15 minutes. I got fed up with the waiters not doing their job and shouted for some sort of service. One did come and clear our plates. I reminded him that this is a business, not a social club. he apologised and served my daughter a desert which she asked for, it was a tiramisu…… a pot of thick mess, like white chocolate mousse, nothing like an actual tiramisu. We sent it straight back and ordered the chocolate cake. It was okay but it had a strange flavour. This restaurant needs a new chef and professional waiting staff to survive. It’s really not worth spending good money on as it stands at the moment. A very disappointing evening...
Read moreVery disappointing. We arrived at what was a very quiet restaurant but were still left standing at the entrance by the staff for 4 or 5 minutes. I eventually asked a young waiter was anyone going to acknowledge us. Even though the place was dead he barked no outside seating was available only inside. Against my better judgement after the appalling welcome we'd been given we accepted a table inside. We were continued to be made feel very unwelcome by every member of staff we encountered for the rest of our stay at La Greppia. For starters my croquettes were very dry and bland. My fiancé's focaccia was pleasant. When we finished the starters the waiter came to take the plates and took our knives and folks off the plates and put them on the table to use again. I found this very odd in what is an expensive restaurant. Our pastas came and my fiancé's was a big let down. Mine was a bit better but nothing to write home about. I couldn't wait to leave La Greppia after the whole experience so asked for the bill. I made my second mistake of the evening, the first was entering La Greppia the second was leaving a tip because not one single person working there deserved it. Funny thing was all the precious outdoor seating that was being kept was still empty when we walked by it about an hour and a half later in the night. If they continue to treat paying customers the way we were treated I've a feeling there will be plenty more empty seating in La Greppia in the...
Read moreDidn’t enjoy it at all. We asked to be seated inside as it was a really warm evening and wanted the a/c, we were, and promptly forgot about. We waited that long to order we had to ask. My wife didn’t want a starter, I had the home made croquettes, and that’s what it was, 9 croquettes with no accompaniments. The waiter also brought my wife’s main with my starter, we assumed we’d waited that long, my main was ready. I finished the starter and expected the escalope straight away so I could eat with my wife, 40 minutes later it arrived. When it did, it was the most unappealing plate of food I’ve had in a long time. The escalope was almost a foot long, I think the veal had been sliced with a razor blade, and topped with so much cheese, there was no other flavour than the cheese. Never got asked if we wanted more drinks, or how things were, in fact no one came near, only to bring our food. So other than it not being that expensive, it wasn’t the best evening of dining we’ve had. One...
