Mesón El Caserío — Restaurant in Cuenca

Very surprised by all the good reviews. We have eaten out a lot in Spain/Portugal in the last 2 weeks, all across the country, from Bilbao to Galicia to Braga to Madrid. This was by far the worst food we have eaten. Ordered the calamares (overcooked and stringy/chewy/hard to swallow) and the mixed BBQ grill with multiple meats. The meat quality was very poor but, worse, badly cooked. The pork and chicken both looked a bit pink but it was hard to tell due to the light (it was dark) and, sure enough, I have been quite ill this morning as my body tries to digest the undercooked meat. Hoping I don't have food poisoning or anything more serious from the chicken/pork. Avoid this place would be my advice, if you value your health and/or want nice food. The bad revews of that place seem absurd for me. I am not a meat lover, but tripe and lamb stew were so enjoable and fresh! Meat is the specialty of the restaraunt as well as Cuenca's, but other options ( croquets, cheese) are also available. The quality of product is top. The place is simple, personnel don't speak English which is a good sign of nob-touristy places. We communicated via translated. Service was promt and efficient.

The restaraunt is located 5-7 minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. Definetely...

Pecamos de nuevos y de hambre :(. Llegamos por la tarde/noche a Cuenca y paseando por el castillo, nos dejamos convencer por el dueño del restaurante que desde la puerta fuera nos vendió la comida casera hecha a la brasa. No suelo hacer caso a los cazadores de clientes porque considero que si en un restaurante se come bien, los clientes van solos sin necesidad de que los convenzan. Pero íbamos con niños y era tarde. Nos dejamos aconsejar por el camarero, un hombre con muy buena voluntad y majisimo. Así que pedimos algunos platos típicos como el morteruelo y pisto con lomo, una especie de carne (supuestamente lomo a tacos con tomate y pimiento), pinchitos , alitas y embutidos. El morteruelo no reflejaba el aspecto que había visto en fotos, el plato de lomo tenía solamente pimientos y los pinchitos y las alitas estaban medio crudos. Lo único medio decente los embutidos, ya que la guarnición de todos los platos era patatas paja de bolsa. A todo esto se le suman los precios carísimos. Más tarde, en otros restaurantes de la zona me recomendaron probar el morteruelo, pero las primeras impresiones te pueden marcar de manera muy negativa 🙁. Definitivamente...
