Where to begin…if you’re a super foodie, then this place may get it done for you. The tasting menu looked incredible but perhaps way over our heads. FYI, as of June 4, 2024 it’s €155 plus €80 for the wine pairing per person. This is for an 18 course menu that takes at least 2 hours to enjoy. Bravo, more power to you if you’re looking forward to a course of shellacked eel.
We chose to go the a la carte route and first off, it was confusing to understand that the a la carte menu came with 3 appetizers. In our case, it was marinated mussels ( quite good ), salmon cream, ( very good ), and Waldorf Macarons, which were so tiny, my wife asked me if we were being scammed. They were delicious so I chose to treat that as a rhetorical question.
Entrees. My wife ordered Sea Bass, which was tapas sized but very tasty. Now my entree was Beef tenderloin. Maybe that means something different in Spain than the US, but what I got was a tough, fatty, thin piece of meat that was hardly chewable and was also cooked between rare and blue in spite of me asking for more medium/medium-well.
Wait staff offered to replace my cut of meat and the second entree which was better but still not what I would expect for a quality cut of meat. Our dessert bites were excellent and the wine list was extraordinary.
The wait staff was efficient to the point of being somewhat off-putting and the atmosphere was not as warm as many other restaurants in Girona. Only 4 tables were occupied in the whole restaurant.
Like I said, perhaps way over our heads but not the experience we...
Read moreI have a personal policy to NEVER write a negative review - if I don't like something, I simply move on and never talk about it online. In one sense, this review is consistent with that personal policy; the food, service, and atmosphere were spectacular. However, the French speaking couple in the corner ruined our exquisite tasting experience and the table next to us when BOTH diners (one male and one female), commenced talking on their cell phones using the speakerphone! Why would anyone waste 145 Euros to spend their dining time talking on the cell phone instead of enjoying the moments of exquisite creativity emanating from a clearly superior kitchen? I don't know. However, when I asked what was the restaurant's cell phone policy, I was told that they not only had no cell phone policy, but were unable (unwilling?) to deter this rude and obnoxious behavior. We all remember the NYC 'Karen' incident in Central Park. Unfortunately, Karen, and her companion, showed up at Massana tonight and ran roughshod over the customers and the employees at Massana. It is the responsibility of the restaurant to enforce a policy that protects diners and employees from rude and inappropriate cell phone behavior. If the restaurant is either unwilling or unable to enforce this reasonable and respectful boundary, then Guide Michelin ought to withdraw their rating. No one should ever be subjected to What's App, or Face Time on a speakerphone in a restaurant...
Read moreAmazing restaurant and absolutely worth the prices. Of course, if you only look for something to fill up your belly you should turn and look for something else. But if you want to experience what unique tastes you can create with the right and real ingredients and the right amount of craftsmanship of a good chef you definitely should stop here. There is no special dish to recommend, all are incredible and unique. Choose referring to the ingredients you usually like and let yourself be surprised. I have also never seen a restaurant with such a personal bonding to the guests: the chef and owner himself are checking at every table if everything’s fine and stop by a small chat. The waiters are perfectly speaking English, French and Spanish of course. Whenever I am back in Girona I will definitely...
