I came to Bongo with high expectations. The a la carte is carefully selected and most pleasing. Service is... disappointing: the cava bottle was "shaken & stirred", so 1/4 went on the floor. Don't get me wrong, I'm not mourning the quantity lost, but it was a very good Juve & Camps, and it was a shame to waste it. Communication was... difficult: 2/4 waiters spoke decent English, and even those 2 came late to the party, after we ordered: the 1st asked to change our "to share" part of the order (Iberian pork cheek) with "Broken eggs with shrimps and eels" (initially we were told that it would take way too long); long story short, something that's not even in the menu came up: fermented beans + 1!!! Egg (to share) and 4 ultra thin, minuscule slices of jamon... Anyways, main courses: confit code & grilled veal : masterfully prepared, very close to exceptional. All in all, a mixed experience. The service would have been excused if it would have been crowded. Also, one expects the table to be cleared between courses, and not doing it "grudgingly" when the next course arrives. We came around 18:00 for an early dinner and we were the only customers. P.S.: If you take the time as a waiter to highly showcase and present any bottle of alcohol served to the table, you can also come and fill in the glasses...
Read moreSo... Might be because it was the 1st of January but the service was extremely disorganized: we had a booking for 12.30, arrived at 12.40 and was told the restaurant is closed till 13.00 the waiter was not able to find our bookin so I showed him my mail confirmation and decided to come back in 20min after a walk at 13.10 we order to drink, then another person comes to take the order to eat. He tells us one of our choices might be out of stock... No problem we understand... 20 min later the first waiter who took our drinks comes to take our order to eat that was already taken. And then... An additional 5 min later he comes back to tell us that half of our choices are out of stock (at this point. We are the first to order in the restaurant and it was not crowded it's already 13.40 so it has been 40 min since we arrived. Just remember also our booked slot was 12.30) then the food arrives... It's cold, not fresh, still ok but regarding the quality vs. Prize it was too much of a difference. Sincerely it was a disappointing experience as the food it ok at best. Salmon was dry, couscous cold, burrata ok but not a real burrata. Croquetas of carbonara ok. finally, I received a mail saying that they are sorry that I did not showed up. ...
Read moreOur review has two sides and let me start with a spoiler, if you book via the Fork or any other site where this place offers discounts, be very cautious!
First I want to say that the service was ok and the food was as good as we expected. It was also done with a little twist and therefore the two stars (I know you can’t give none, but still one for the service and one for the food). The atmosphere wasn’t that great as we were seated close to the kitchen which was louder than expected and we were told that all window seats were reserved. Until now we would still be at 4 stars, BUT here comes the bad part, we made a reservation via the Fork and whoever placed their discounts there was pretty smart. If you select the time slot it shows 40% off but if you don’t look closely this 40% off is only available if you make a reservation for 1 person and there are no discounts for any group size larger than that. Can you call that a scam, maybe not, but still I think it is foul play and as it was a part of our decision to pick the place it left us with a...
