Excellent food! We wish we came here sooner.
Little wait time for food.
One issue though (and I can’t for the heart of me take off a star for this) but one of the waiters was, by far, the rudest hospitality worker we have come across in all of our travels and back home.
Martin was clearly having a bad day… I did my best to speak my sparse Spanish (home taught and learned), and he was belligerent from the start. There was an issue with a beer I ordered (I asked for a gluten free beer and specified that I wanted the one that was alcoholic, and not the non-alcoholic one) it took a few back and forths to bridge the language barrier (not a worry for me, this is Spain and not an English speaking country!) with me even pointing to the beer I was after. The non-alcoholic one came out, again, no issue - mistakes happen with linguistic barriers. Martin came back over and I politely asked if I could get the alcoholic one - he did not like this, and loudly shouted that I had ordered that one. I explained that I didn’t, and that I would like the alcoholic one. He obliged and walked away, muttering under his breath, and then shouting in the kitchen about the beer (I couldn’t make out what he said). His mood only darkened and he practically threw our food onto the table in front of us without a word.
Thankfully, we didn’t deal with him again, and the other waiters we did deal with...
Read moreGluten Free heaven on earth! A 100% gluten free restaurant with Italian food as well as offering other Non-Italian dishes. And offer lactose free, sugar free, vegetarian and vegan meals also. Brilliant! The food highlights for us tonight were: Russian salad tapa, on the house Free dam 00 alcohol gluten free beer with lemon - yummy too! Side salad made to order Ibérico pork (fed only on acorns) - wow, the word to describe it is simply SUPREME! Lemon creme tart - yummy!
The service highlights - it was fantastic too - rightly timed, from ordering drinks and giving us space to choose our meals. Listening carefully to what and how we preferred or wanted our dishes - ie , no onions in the salad or in my vegetables side for the pork. So kind and attentive - NOTHING was too much to ask for! Very accommodating and welcoming. Victor and Fernando were awesome - MIL GRACIAS!!! To add on they've also offer nice decor, relaxing ambience, jazzy music, low light lighting... Located in the city centre, plus we were pleasantly surprised the bill was not pricey at all and had no hidden extras! A TRUE GEM! 💎 We'll probably cancel our dinner reservation elsewhere and return on Thursday night, our last night in Granada... Don't miss out on this place - it really deserves to have a top 5-star rating....
Read moreWonderful food, great service, perfect location (and 100% gluten free) – don’t miss it. This is a wonderful venue with wonderful food, great service and it is in a perfect location. Even though we enjoy exploring new restaurants each day when we are traveling, we visited La Nonna Carmela at this location twice. The first time we visited we sat inside. The second time we visited we sat outside in the Plaza de Bib-Rambla enjoying watching life go by. This location is a two minute walk (about 160 m or about 500 ft.) from the Cathedral. Among the best dishes on the menu are the ravioli with mushrooms, fettuccine alfredo, the pesto cheesecake appetizer consisting of cream cheese with walnuts, pine nuts and cherry tomatoes and, not to be ignored, pizza. The pizza, with a wonderful thin and crispy crust and delicious chesses and sauces, is among the best we’ve enjoyed in many cities around the globe including cities in Italy, New York and Chicago. Even for those of us that can eat gluten. It was a joy. And there was an added bonus. – the menu is 100% gluten free and suitable for celiacs. There are other locations in the Carmela Group. Only La Nonna at this location is 100%...
