This may be the best eating experience( as in your advert) in Granada, but we did not have the opportunity to taste the food or enjoy the experience. I phoned to book this restaurant , with a Spanish number, on 26th January..the booking was for February 8th...We arrived at the restaurant at 8.30 pm on Feb 8th to find it closed...three adults and two children. The restaurant is situated in a quiet street in Granada a fair way from the centre, no taxis. I phoned the proprietor who told me they were closed for renovations and that he had tried to call me...I could find no record of any missed calls. Give him his due, he called a taxi for us and reserved us a table with another restaurant, however the taxi could not take 5 people and we had to pay for it...the food in the other restaurant was very good, no need for a reservation as there were only two other people there, but not what we were expecting for our last night in Granada. So yes your restaurant was an unforgettable experience for us, and an experience that I do not expect from a high...
Read moreWow! What can I say? Forget the Alhambra and come to Granada just to eat at this restaurant. I booked this restaurant as a treat during a 10 day holiday in Spain. I was slightly hesitant to have such a lavish meal on my own, but my hesitancy was unwarranted as I was able to truly appreciate each course and wine pairing. The head waiter, I'm sorry I forgot his name, was delightfully attentive and knowledgeable about the local produce, wine and cooking techniques. We discussed each course afterwards, which just enhanced the dining experience. I would highly recommend getting the wine pairing with the tasting menu as the combinations were truly complimentary. Lastly, the head chef, Samuel comes to your table at the end to have a chat and even called a taxi for me. One of the best dining experiences and I...
Read moreThis small restaurant in Granada provided one of the best tasting menus I've had in some time and definitely during this most recent trip to Spain (I've been doing a mixture of fine/Michelin star dining and locally-favored tapas restaurants). Some standouts were the oyster, tuna, cod, and duck preparations, all of which I've had at least once on a tasting menu in the past week. However, Restaurant Cala had these amazing preparations marrying interesting but balanced flavor combinations (e.g., duck with red and black berries, plus a sharp mousse-like cheese), while highlighting the main ingredient (the tuna was the best I can recall having in years). It feels like the chef has a humble love for the food, and that love transmits to the diner. To me, this type of food experience - including foregoing unnecessary pageantry to focus on the food - is...
