Hong Kong Restaurante — Restaurant in Granadilla de Abona

Having traveled to more than 50 countries I visited Chinese restaurants in many different places. This Tenerife Chinese restaurant right next to the ocean reminds me of a small Chinese restaurant in the town of Hagen in Germany where I went to school. I enjoyed the very tasty food for a low price, but it closed down because the building was needed for something else. So my wife and I had to wait more than twenty years until our uncle, who still lives in Hagen, discovered this gem of a Chinese restaurant called Hongkong right in the centre of El Medano on the wonderful island of Tenerife. Whenever it is possible we come here and enjoy incredibly tasty food for a very reasonable price, and it reminds us of the good old times.The service is extremely friendly and the view is one of the best panoramas we ever experienced in a Chinese restaurant. We ate in the Hong Kong based on reviews, having had a surprisingly lovely meal in the Mar Azul 2 doors up, 2 nights earlier. So disappointed! Spare ribs almost meat free and chewy. No hint of salt and pepper spices. Chow mein beyond bland and sizzling Cantonese prawns again bland, not particularly sizzling no real evidence of those fantastic Cantonese spices. The spring rolls were forgotten until we asked and then overcooked and heavy. The duck in orange sauce was lovely, and I'm sure other things on the menu are so perhaps we chose badly. The ribs in capital sauce were lovely, as was the prawn toast. The fillet steak Cantonese was nice too, but had a taste I wasn't keen on in the background. I had Hong Kong rice, but probably would have stuck with egg fried rice if I had known it would be curry (?) flavoured, but it detracted from the other flavours / meat etc.
