This is usually my favourite place in Corralejo and we usually go here when in town. 5 stars is the norm as it's good quality, lots of food and not a rip off on prices. I've dropped a star from the usual 5/5 this time as the attitude of one of the waiters was a bit off and it spoiled the rest of my day.
There was an issue with one dish being wrong. This related to a 1/2 portion of ratatouille for a lactose intolerant veggie, but instead we wer given a plate of cheese! For lactose intolerant vegetarians we usually have house salad without the tuna, Canarian potatoes and ratatouille (pisto) as it's the only possibility. We told the waitress it was wrong and she took back the cheese and we then waited for the ratatouille to arrive which was half way through eating our dinner. Not a great start but usually something we'd overlook.
My mum (not veggie) always has half portion of salmon (1 1/2 steaks of salmon, with salad and Canarian potatoes) for €6 which is great value. But they charged for a full portion (usually 3 steaks and too much for someone to eat unless sharing or you have a very big appetite). Mum was given 2 steaks but they were thinner and boney (according to her) than usual so assumed still 1/2 portion.
When we asked for the bill it didn't arrive after waiting 15 mins, so we asked again. The bill had charged mum for a full portion of salmon and missed off the ratatouille. Mum queried the bill and it was corrected but the mood of the chap had changed to offish which made us feel sad and let down. We could have not had the bill adjusted but it would have meant less tip for the staff. We handed the money to the chap dealing with bills and drinks (not the usual one behind the bar area) but he wouldn't make eye contact and it was obvious he was not happy at all. I'm not sure if he thought it was our fault regarding the meals being wrong but I felt very uncomfortable and will leave it a while before going again.
We had eaten there a week before and had the vegetarian paella and that was really tasty but it is big and it's €16.60 so you need at least one friend to share with (or take it home in a container which I think they charge 30 cents which is a great service).
I hope service is...
Read moreWhen you’re on an island surrounded by the sea, you have to eat fish—no excuses. A blog pointed me towards Avenida, and the way they handle reservations (or rather, don’t) immediately intrigued me. No booking in advance—just walk in, give your name and the number of guests at the bar, and wait. First come, first served. One hour later, I had my seat.
Despite dining alone, I wasn’t stuck at some awkward corner table. Instead, I was seated right in the middle of the restaurant, which added to the authentic, no-nonsense atmosphere. Nothing here feels artificially polished for tourists—and that’s exactly what makes it special.
After a quick chat with the staff, I ordered half a portion of fish and half a portion of goat cheese. Except, let’s be real—their “half” portions are the size of a full meal elsewhere (or even 1.5!).
Before my main course, I was surprised with (half) a baguette and a delicious mayo-based dip—completely on the house. Some places here charge for these little extras, while others just spoil their guests.
The main course and house wine were awesome. By the time I left, I was completely full and ridiculously happy.
The only downside? The service wasn’t exactly overflowing with enthusiasm. But honestly? That didn’t take away from the experience at all. If you love great seafood without the touristy fluff—Avenida is the...
Read moreI heard a lot of good things about this restaurant. Unfortunately today I was disappointed. We ordered Mixed Paella, the waiter didn't warn us that we have to wait long for it. It is customary in restaurants that if you wait, you get a free pre-starter. All the other guests got a basket of bread and a bowl of garlic paste. We didn't . Neither yesterday nor the day before yesterday. After 30 minutes we still didn't get the paella ... I asked the waiter how much longer we'd have to wait, he said " It is slow today" and after 5 minutes another waitress came up to us almost shouting that paella takes a long time to arrive . I told her we were waiting for too long and we were hungry She said that if I wanted a starter, she would bring me the menu and I'd order spmething. After almost an hour we got our dish, but the prawns were 'rubbery' because they had been cooked for too long, and some mussels were raw. It was also strange that we were "served" by four waiters. One brought the menu, another forks and napkins, another the dish, and yet another the bill.
After the meal we wanted to order coffee and desserts, but gave up. The service was rude and we felt like second class...
