Tapas Oscar — Restaurant in La Oliva

It's more of a 3.5 stars, but definitely not 4, so had to mark it down to 3. It was okay. We had super high expectations of this place after reading some reviews and seeing how packed it was each day, but it didn't live up to them. We booked on a Monday for Thursday evening, and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table - no apology, no offer of a drink whilst we waited, nowhere even to sit - just stand awkwardly outside in the queue with everyone else.

Once seated, we were served abruptly by an unfriendly waitress, and had to wait a while before ordering (which is fine, they were busy). We had a selection of tapas dishes for our table, but they didn't bring one of the dishes we ordered and instead brought another dish. When we pointed this out the waitress looked like we'd just asked her to perform swan lake. No action was taken, no apology, no missing dish appeared - she just took away the dish we hadn't ordered. Bit of a shame. One of our party had dietary requirements and we had to ask about some ingredients - word of warning for anyone with allergies - just don't bother.

The food was alright, but nothing special given the hype. We saw the owner, Oscar, drop the carving knife on the floor and pick it back up and carry on carving the iberian ham - gross and very off-putting!

If you want to go, go - but if you don't manage to get a table, you're not...

AVOID THIS PLACE!

We heard good reviews about this restaurant and therefore decided to visit it. However, it is difficult to describe our disappointment and ruined day due to the terrible service and customer attitude. Despite the availability of many empty tables, we were made to stand in the sun and wait for their "manager". The staff was all dirty and dressed sloppily. After asking several times how long we still had to stand outside, we were told that if we didn't like it, we could leave. After my threat to write a bad review, I was told they didn't care and had enough customers without us. The waiter made an obscene gesture towards me as I was leaving. This prompted my friend to return and make a remark, which led to an argument and eventually the waiter tried to fight with my friend. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. The manager also started swearing and throwing us out. I have never encountered such rudeness before. If you want to get a dose of negative emotions and ruin your holiday, then this is the place for you. There are more worthy restaurants in Corralejo, with amazing food and smiling, friendly staff.

Wir hatten gute Bewertungen über dieses Restaurant gehört und beschlossen daher, es zu besuchen. Es ist jedoch schwierig, unsere Enttäuschung und den ruinierten Tag aufgrund des schrecklichen Services und der schlechten Kundenbetreuung zu beschreiben. Trotz der Verfügbarkeit vieler freier Tische mussten wir in der Sonne stehen und auf ihren "Manager" warten. Das Personal war schmutzig und unordentlich gekleidet. Nachdem ich mehrmals gefragt hatte, wie lange wir noch draußen stehen müssten, wurde uns gesagt, dass wir gehen könnten, wenn es uns nicht gefiel. Nach meiner Drohung, eine schlechte Bewertung zu schreiben, wurde mir gesagt, dass es ihnen egal sei und sie genug Kunden ohne uns hätten. Der Kellner machte eine obszöne Geste in meine Richtung, als ich ging. Daraufhin kehrte mein Freund zurück und machte eine Bemerkung, was zu einem Streit führte und schließlich versuchte der Kellner, mit meinem Freund zu kämpfen. Ich kann dieses Restaurant niemandem empfehlen. Der Manager fing auch an zu schimpfen und warf uns hinaus. Ich habe noch nie solch eine Unhöflichkeit erlebt. Wenn Sie eine Dosis negativer Emotionen erhalten und Ihren Urlaub ruinieren möchten, dann ist dies der richtige Ort für Sie. Es gibt würdigere Restaurants in Corralejo, mit tollem Essen und lächelndem, freundlichem Personal.

¡EVITA ESTE LUGAR!

Habíamos oído buenas críticas sobre este restaurante y por eso decidimos visitarlo. Sin embargo, es difícil describir nuestra decepción y el día arruinado debido al terrible servicio y la actitud hacia los clientes. A pesar de la disponibilidad de muchas mesas vacías, nos hicieron esperar bajo el sol a su "jefe". El personal estaba todo sucio y vestido de manera desaliñada. Después de preguntar varias veces cuánto más tendríamos que esperar afuera, nos dijeron que si no nos gustaba, podíamos irnos. Después de mi amenaza de escribir una mala crítica, me dijeron que no les importaba y que tenían suficientes clientes sin nosotros. El camarero hizo un gesto obsceno hacia mí cuando me iba. Esto hizo que mi amigo volviera y hiciera un comentario, lo que llevó a una discusión y finalmente el camarero intentó pelearse con mi amigo. No puedo recomendar este restaurante a nadie. El gerente también comenzó a maldecir y a echarnos. Nunca me había encontrado con tal grosería. Si quieres recibir una dosis de emociones negativas y arruinar tus vacaciones, este es el lugar para ti. Hay restaurantes más dignos en Corralejo, con comida increíble y personal...

A surprisingly disappointing experience. We were intrigued by Tapas Oscar due to the large queues we saw outside each day. I think now this may be due to understaffing, as tables were free while the queue was long.

The staff seemed very hurried and distracted. While we were ordering, the waiter kept getting distracted looking away and I had to wait, but there was no apology or acknowledgement. I wouldn't say this as his fault so much as having to keep an eye on too many people, and the management should be hiring more staff to ease the pressure.

The food was very lacklustre. We had fried mushrooms (too much batter and oil, not much flavour), fried cheese (tasted pretty basic and didn't look like the pictures shown here - I wonder if it was prepackaged), fried fish pieces (overcooked), Canarias potatoes (delicious! Best ones we've had!) and grilled veg, which was nice.

The sangria was okay.

Overall, spent €50 on a meal which did the job but wasn't particularly exciting. Much preferred El Charly, around the corner, who did an incredible lunch!

I wonder if it's the meat offerings which impress people, which...
