Had an absolutely awful experience here thanks to the rudest waiter I've ever come across.
I went for an evening meal with my girlfriend, the restaurant wasn't busy and we were sat down promptly. The trouble all started when we ordered- we weren't that hungry and the drinks were super pricey- so both of us ordered just a main course each with no starters or drinks.
As soon as the waiter realised we were "only" ordering mains he suddenly realised that he had been shortlisted for the World's Worst Waiter competition and immediately began to act appropriately. He seamlessly switched from oily obsequiousness to full-on insolence. His tone changed and it was clear that by not ordering exorbitantly priced wine or starters we had committed a cardinal sin.
Our food mysteriously took ages to arrive and when it did it was clear that the cooks had been made aware of the two university-students who weren't giving the greedy owners enough of their money. My girlfriend's spaghetti with Goat's cheese, olives and tomatoes was oilier than the waiter himself- as was my mushroom and prawn tagliatelle.
After we had finished the waiter came back to bluntly ask if we wanted a desert. Unsurprisingly we refused and we politely asked for the bill. Sir Impertinent then took over 10 minutes to bring us the now infamous 2-main course only bill. This was despite the fact that the restaurant was not busy at all; he was clearly just trying to do his best to spite us.
So there we go- this is an expensive, pretentious restaurant with staff who are sycophantic if you're rich and profligate but extremely rude if you're young and just wanting to order some over-priced mains. Luckily my girlfriend and I were able to laugh the experience off- we now sporadically impersonate our least-favourite waiter from time to time which is good fun; every cloud has a...
Read moreThis little gem of a restaurant we have used many times over the years, but this last week when we were out was the most disappointing time we have experienced. The service was bad, nor very attentive. We had reserved a table for 9pm the day before. So we thought it would be ok. The restaurant had only two tables in use and they showed us a table right in the corner. We asked them if we could change to one nearer the window and they did after checking if it was reserved and it wasn't, there were no more people in that night!! they got us our drinks and we ordered our food, the starter was not very good and the bread arrived after we had eaten the starter! They were rushing us and as it was my Husbands birthday evening we wanted to enjoy and relax. The meal arrived ......it was not what we ordered, so when we said, they were sorry but the kitchen was closed now, so they couldn't do anything about it. It was terrible. After some wonderful times there before. We were so disappointed, don't know what has happened but the staff and service was terrible. As it is now I couldn't recommend...
Read moreOur experience was a bit disappointing. We came here because of the many positive reviews. As a starter, I had the octopus — it was tasty, although the portion was much smaller than what was shown on the menu. For the main course, I had the barracuda, which I personally found less impressive. The pairing with the mango sauce didn’t really work for me. Dessert is something I would personally skip here. My partner and I had the chocolate cake and the tiramisu. The tiramisu was not tasty at all — just a runny cream, nothing like an actual tiramisu. The chocolate cake came with something that was supposed to resemble chocolate mousse, but was honestly just not tasty at all. We're Belgian's so maybe our 'chocolate standards' are a bit higher than others (haha).
The restaurant seems to aim for a more high-end concept in comparison with other restaurants in the neighbourhood, but the interior doesn’t really match that ambition. The atmosphere could be made cozier, but it was fine overall.
Starters and mains were okay, but I’d definitely give...
