We've came into this restaurant very relaxed. We were on our vacation with my partner and found this place for lunch. Our waiter (a man) was very polite and spoke italian very well so we placed our order in italian (we asked 1xportion of each apetizer) from which one was a sauce with some bread that costed 1,50€ (pp) but we asked 1x only. Once we finished eating the bill arrived which was 70,50€ (for a lunch not very cheap but we paid without any problem) we only had big cash (20-50€) and we had no 0,50cents. There was a woman behind the bar that also operated the money of clients when somebody paid, she said arrogantly and angry "0,50cents are missing" when she said so we gave her 20€ to pay the 0,50cents which is already ridiculous. Than we exited the restaurant and saw on the bill that the sauce with bread (1,50€) was mentioned twice in the bill, i returned upstairs only to gently ask the waitress why i paid for it twice, where she again, extremely arrogantly responded to her colleague (not even to me) "i need to give her back 1,50€ because she needs the money" so she insulted me that i needed money. Where I responded that i did not came back for the money but simply to understand why the plate was mentioned twice. She than said that in the menu it's written 1,50€/pp. I told her yes, but we only asked for one portion. Than she told me super arrogantly and frustrated "for a homemade bread and sauce that price is very low onestly but don't worry i'll give you back the money since you need it". After this comment I got really angry because ut was insulting me and it's not acceptable. I came back only for an explanation not for money. Than I told her to calm down and to stop being arrogant and i left without the money. She came after me telling me ; here's your money but i told her "don't worry keep it, i don't desperstely need money". I will never come back to such a restaurant, which is a pitty because the food was amazing but the woman waitress was a disaster and should not work...

We’ve visited El Cotillo every year since 2017, sometimes twice a year, and know all of the restaurants here pretty well - we love the food offerings here, the fresh fish and the standard is very high!
After seeing a new place pop up on the map, we were very excited to try it out, especially after reading the reviews here and seeing pics of the menu items on the Instagram account.
First and foremost, the service was excellent. Very friendly, bi-lingual (maybe even trilingual or more), very attentive but not pushy. 10/10. (Lady and a tall guy)
The food was generally very tasty.
The potato bread with dip looked great, and really was light and delicious, a nice twist on the traditional mojo served on the isles 👍.
The watermelon feta & shrimp salad was tasty, but quite small. Having shrimps sliced in two and served this way was new for us, and didn’t come across well. Rather 3 or 4 full shrimps than 6/8 halves, feta pieces were also tiny. As a whole, the salad looked rather deflated and was small for a main course.
Lonchas de pulpo tasted amazing. The potato & pepper foam was out of this world, but the slices of octopus were very small & thin. I understand that this was not a main course, but if I had a spoon the whole plate was gone in 4 mouthfuls.
Meals that we saw being served to other tables looked great, the fish burger and the daily fish of the day looked good on the eye and plentiful. I normally take pics of all the food we order, but just felt in our case today it wasn’t going to do justice to the menu listing.
Wine was good value, they serve a perfect Cortado and they also throw in some tasty fruity...
Read morePez Gordo = fine dining. It takes the culinary crown of el cotillo with a menu of sophistication and an obvious passion for excellence.
The steak here is an unbelievable. Its crust crackles with a perfect sear, enhanced by delicate flakes of salt that burst like ocean spray on the tongue. But it’s the interior—thick, red and juicy—that gives it the ‘boom’ factor. The contrast between the crunch and the unrestrained richness of the steak is enough to make any carnivore swoon.
The fish is equally divine—succulent, tender, and lovingly prepared to bring out its delicate, oceanic essence. It’s clear that only the freshest local catch makes it to the table, at the end of the day you can’t serve tuna tartare without it basically still flapping when they buy it.
As an aside, a beautiful touch is the mashed potato, arranged like a miniature volcano in homage to Fuerteventura’s dramatic volcanic origins. Beyond its artistic presentation, the mash is buttery, silky smooth, and a perfect accompaniment to the bold flavors of the mains.
The location itself is unbeatable, perched over the old harbour, it time warps you back 200 years to the age of sail where the fisher folk hauled in the catch at peril of their lives through the rocks and skerries of the outer harbour.
In short, Pez Gordo is the best resto I’ve eaten in in el cotillo in 16 years of coming here.
Miguel is a waiter that truly enjoys his job and wants to make every part of your experience exceptional and el jefe, MATEUSZ WOULD WIN MASTERCHEF.
