Sadly my visit to Koi Sushi was quite disappointing. Here are my comments:
Food: -Sushi rice was undercooked and tasted watery in the rolls (salmon/cream cheese), ruining the experience for me. Given this, 14,50 € is definitely overpriced. -The consistency of the wasabi was too liquidy , almost like a thick porridge. -the ginger was tasty but very little was given -the roles came with a sweet thick soy sauce already on top, which perhaps is their signature style, but certainly was not what I preferred on my roles. I wish they would leave it up to customer to decide what sauces to put on their rolls. the nigiri (flamed salmon) tasted fine but not outstanding -mochi ice cream (mango) was very tasty.
Costumer service: The waitress was friendly, but also quite passive aggressive. She smiled and was very attentive, but also seated me at the worst table with view of the bathroom even though there were two same sized much nicer tables available by the window. The restaurant was not full, there was no reason to not seat me at a nicer table. After I received the bill I spent maximum 5 minutes writing a text message. Rather than waiting to approach to me when I was ready to pay she approached me again asking how I wanted to pay. This made me feel rushed and like she wanted to get me out of the restaurant. What I believe was the chef and another male waiter greeted me very nicely and asked how everything was.
This is a cute and cozy restaurant, but the quality of the food needs major improvement, especially for the prices they charge. Some of the wait staff need to work on their customer service. Weird that the wait staff was so opposing in the ways they engaged with me...
Read moreOur visit to this restaurant was unfortunately very disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we felt very unwelcome, which began right at the entrance. The waitress who served us was unpleasant and clearly lacked any customer service skills. Instead of greeting us with a smile or at least trying to maintain a professional attitude, she seemed irritated and uninterested in ensuring that we had a pleasant evening.
To make matters worse, she behaved very unprofessionally when it came to payment. When the bill came, we noticed that the waitress not only miscalculated the total amount, but she also gave us incorrect change. When we pointed this out, she responded with annoyance and without any apology. The entire situation was very uncomfortable for us and gave the impression that she didn't even have a basic understanding of her job.
While the food itself was of average quality, the negative experience with the service completely ruined our impression of the visit. I don't think we'll be returning to this restaurant, and I certainly cannot recommend it to anyone who expects decent treatment and professional service. It's disappointing when staff are unable to provide even a basic level of service, and instead, they discourage customers with their unwillingness and...
Read moreThings that could be improved: • The sushi rice was a bit hard. I guess this might be to cater to local preferences? I can accept slightly undercooked rice in paella and risotto, but when it comes to Japanese cuisine, I prefer well-cooked sushi rice. • Maybe I just have high standards for dumplings, but I personally wouldn’t recommend them. The cabbage and pork filling was a bit bland—it could use more salt, and each dumpling should have more filling.
Things worth praising: • The restaurant uses locally caught fish for sushi, and you can taste the freshness. The local sea fish here has a different texture from tuna or salmon—it’s milder in flavor and lower in fat. It works well for a refreshing tropical roll. • The service was excellent, and there was no mandatory percentage-based tip when paying the bill. • The dining environment, including the restroom, was clean. • The fried dishes we ordered were well-executed. The tempura shrimp dumplings weren’t bad. The pumpkin croquette was delicious! However, it didn’t pair well with the spicy mayo—the natural sweetness of the mashed pumpkin was already great on its own.
Highly recommended: Bluefin tuna nigiri, Tropical roll, Pumpkin croquette, and...
