Sadly disappointing. Its easily one of the best decorated venues on the strip. That's where the good impressions end.
The starters, we had the Donostiarra Casserole which was an excess of salt and oil. My Doctor was sweating, even back in the UK. I am looking forward to the coronary. The prawns were massively overcooked. The mushrooms undercooked. We also had the Ceasar salad. Which was underwhelming with soggy, oily croutons. I went to the clinic around the corner. Measured my cholesterol. The test came back "Yes." And was advised to call a Priest." It was HUGE however. It took all I could to not shout GODZILLA! as a portion the size of a small city appeared on the horizon.
For mains we ordered the Fillet steak and ominously generic "Beef Steak" both medium rare. They came at the same time and on the same platter. They looked identical. Huge. Again. But exceedingly poor cuts of meat. Wasn't a fillet. Nor was it medium rare. It was well done. So well done it had a US Dad with a catchers mitt calling it Champ. That steak had just won the local soft ball league. The Beef steak was medium, but for one corner. Which was medium rare and actually delicious. The tastiest corner since Eau Rouge. Sadly, Salty. Fatty. Cheap meat. Hit a little too close to home. Those are also the pet names the girlfriend gives me. Roquefort sauce was also bland and lumpy. Much sad. Very disappoint.
Cocktails - we had a San Francisco and whatever the alcoholic version of that bad boy was. Pouring juices they can do! Actually lovely.
They also seem to allow street vendors in to pester you at your tables. Doesn't facilitate a great dining experience. Overall, expensive and disappointing. We hope it was an off day. We really do as we had read the other reviews which made us really look forward to this. Unfortunately, like my parents say to me on a frighteningly frequent basis. So...
Read moreI just want to say a big thank you to the male waiter who made sure our experience was top notch, despite the fact that they were short staffed and a couple of our dishes were slow to arrive. He was always keeping an eye out, making sure that everyone received what they'd ordered. He noticed both times and came straight over to ask what we'd ordered and went to find out where it was and that in my books is excellent customer service. Not only this, but he gave me a beer on the house and brought us some free shots when we'd finished, which were delicious and a great way to finish the meal. The female staff were also a credit to their team, friendly and approachable.
We ordered starters and mains. I personally ordered the fried stuffed mozzarella, something which is similar to what I order at my local Italian restaurant. This was a level above what I got from the Italian! My friend and our two wives also really enjoyed their starters very much, the chorizo sausage, the garlic mushrooms, and the fried aubergine.
Our mains were to die for! I tried the Iberian Pork, something which I'd been meaning to try for a long time. They got a perfect charcoal flavour on the pork, and as someone who loves barbecue food, you can't beat that flavour. My friend had a mixed paella, something which we both wanted to try, and that was also amazing, so flavourful! Our wives had chicken and steak, both complimented them and I have to say, that steak was very large! I'm not sure what cut it was, considering it was a strange shape and it didn't say on the menu. The mushroom sauce that came with the steak was well complimented as well.
This restaurant is easily in my top 5 restaurants ever and the best food we've had on the island by far. Highly recommended! I'd give it a 6/5 if that was...
Read moreI had read other reviews and thought this might be a nice place to come, especially as they did paella for one.How wrong I was. The proprietor pounced on us as soon as we were outside looking at the menu and was very pushy. We went in anyway and were put in the window "for the best views" Nothing to do with it being empty and they wanted to show others people were eating. Drink orders were taken, no problem there. Next, we were asked if we wanted a starter. We said no which was greeted with cries of anguish to that and more pushing. Two chicken grill specials, a La Tasca burger and the paella were ordered. Complimentary ham, bread and goats cheese were brought out. Very tasty. The food eventually arrived and it looked nice. The chicken once it cooled a bit became tough and chewy, the burger was ok. The paella. Oh dear. Whilst tasty, the poop chute had not been removed from the king prawn and I had to wait for her to serve it to me from a separate dish, which took forever. When the bill came we paid and left, only to find out she overcharged us for the paella. This is the first Corralejo restaurant we visited that we have no intention of going back to....
