Great Vegetarian Options, but Be Prepared to Wait
The place was actually good, especially in my experience because I ordered a vegetarian meal. I had the lentil burger. You could really tell everything was made with care, and it felt fresh and homemade. As a vegetarian, I loved that there were so many organic and plant-based options. It’s not always easy to find a spot like that, so that was a big plus.
My two friends both had meat burgers — one with camembert and the other with bacon. One of them enjoyed it, but the other wasn’t really a fan. The burgers weren’t grilled with crispy edges like you might expect. Instead, they seemed cooked lightly on the stove and were still quite pink inside. Some people might like that style, but others won’t, so I’d recommend the restaurant ask how guests want their burgers done. That would make a big difference. Pink meat isn’t for everyone….
The fries, or rather the potatoes, were really good. They had a kind of curry seasoning that added something unique and tasty.
If I will talk about one downside was the waiting time. It took around 45 minutes to get our food, which felt extra long, especially since we were tired and just wanted a quiet meal. There weren’t many people, maybe two or three other couples, and we had ordered first, so we were surprised it took that long. That’s something the place could definitely improve.
Overall though, I was happy with my food. It might be a little more expensive, but you get a proper portion and the quality makes up for it. If you’re vegetarian or into organic food, I definitely recommend giving this...
Read moreWith high expectations from photos and the menu online, we were very disappointed. Firstly, the service was terrible. We waited for a long time, even told the waitress 2x we were ready and she proceeded to do dishes right in front of us. Tables around us waited as well for her to bring the bills but again she just kept cleaning and not tending to patrons. It was actually shocking.
I had the vegetable galette. No flavour. Almost like they forgot any spices. I asked for goat cheese added but they brought hard goat cheese chunks instead of melting it inside. Worst part, the burger, requested specially to be WELL done was pink and cold in the middle. Nothing was done to remedy this. We’d never return.
The spirulina latte was nice, but the entire experience was tainted by someone who doesn’t know how to handle a situation like this in the food industry. Very unfortunate. It really seemed like she didn’t care about the customers there. We were disregarded as were others told, “Just wait a few minutes” as she continued to dry dishes/clean the coffee machine etc all while we sat there. She did not check on our meal after serving us. We had to get up and go tell her something was wrong with the meat.
Just hope they fix this for future guests. We were there...
Read moreWow! I don’t even know where to start with this amazing little restaurant! First of all, they do carry out, which is a rarity in Malaga. And if you get Covid while on vacation and you’re quarantining, then you quickly find the best place for carry out. I sent my husband on many a Byoko order pickup run. Secondly, they serve breakfast, and not just any breakfast, but they make a flatbread called “The Royal” that they load up with bacon, eggs, and good quality cheese. And my favorite part - they offer it on gluten free bread…really delicious artisanal gluten free bread. If you’re craving proteins, this will hit the spot! They also have lots of vegetarian options. Finally, they serve the most amazing fresh foods, like their salsa with mango (which is a perfect mix of sweet, salty, and spicy) and this vegetable mix with zucchini, sweet potatoes, and squash. The salmon is also fabulous. I really couldn’t get enough of their food, and everything my husband and I ordered, we absolutely loved! The food is cooked to perfection, the service is impeccable, and the servers speak English. It’s located conveniently, between the Plaza de la Constitucion and the harbor. I’d consider going back to Malaga again just to eat at Byoko!...
