It really feels like we were financially profiled upon arrival.
We were asked to wait for tables to free up while there were plenty of tables available, and were then treated with no kind of courtesy and rather coldly by the staff.
We had to ask for the bill a second time, after waiting for 15 minutes, then we were provided with a bill that had an additional product on it, so we again had to wait.
Upon leaving, a simple goodbye was not reciprocated by the staff.
I understand this is a high-level establishment, and we might not have been the typical customers one can expect at a place like this, but I still believe everyone is worthy of respectful service despite not wearing the finest Brioni or Corneliani suits that other customers were donning.
Regardless of the objectively bad experience when it came to the service, the ambience really made up for it. It is a wonderful cafe placed in a great neighborhood, clearly designed and furnished by someone with exceptional taste. The Photo Booth is also a nice touch that I would suggest to anyone coming by, for the reasonable price of €4 (which can also be paid via card).
It is a shame that a potentially beautiful experience was spoiled by the prejudice of the staff towards younger, less “elegant” customers.

Read more2025/03 update: downgraded to two stars. They are now charging higher prices if you want to sit at the salon, they are also enforcing reservations, and the most ridiculous one hour limit to have a coffee and a conversation with your friends. With this, they have completely killed the local, old style vibe this café had. Due to this new time limit they have also forbidden old timers from coming and playing a chess game, which was one wonderful tradition. On top of all this, the prices are ridiculously expensive. I cannot recommend this place anymore, and I would suggest people to go elsewhere.
A classic Madrid café, remodeled and yet still respecting the vibe and ambiance of the past. It’s always a pleasure to sit at one of their tables to chat with a friend or read the newspaper. I wonder if the two people who used to play chess every morning sitting at the same table are still around… On to the food, great coffee, as it’s usual in Madrid’s cafes, and wonderful cheese and ham sandwich - well toasted, with more than a paper-thin slice of bad cheese. I am passionate about ham and cheese sandwiches, and this one is one of the best I have had in a long while. Service is correct, staff is friendly, and I highly...
Read moreI have a horrible experience in this cafe. Open discrimination towards my cousin and his wife, they requested a table for 7 and because my cousin looks Bohemian they sited him beside a STINKY bathroom! I went to talk to the person in charge of sitting arrangements HARVEY, and then he started to put me down, telling me he was doing me a favor and there was not other table to offer us (party of 7) when most of the tables were EMPTY!!!! Due to the rudeness of this animal I requested to talk to the manager…. Her name is ANDREA, the most rude, confrontational, argumentative, no customer services skills, who defended HARVEY like he was an excellent employee. She wouldn’t shut up, was practically yelling in front of all restaurant and and opened the door asking us to leave the restaurant like she was actually the owner. I came from Germany and was told this was a good place but I will make sure all my friends know NOT to come ever to this place. Worse customer service I have in my life. This individuals do dot deserve to have this positions when the do not know how to treat the...
